Post by: Andy89 on August 14, 2006, 03:14:47 PM
hey everyone got a few questions bout the yota axle swaps you guys are doing, is it the whole rear end swap or just axles? do you have to use the yota brake drums? will this swap work for my 86 Sami??

You probably could swap in just shafts, but that would require shortening the shafts, re-splining them after the shortening, and doing a whole lot of machining to make the wheelbearings fit.

Or just swap in both toyota axles like everyone else does. ;)

Don't forget to run a CV front Toyota driveshaft (out of a 1979-1985 pickup) to keep vibes down. My buddy swapped a Tracker rear end into his Samurai with the stock shaft and it vibrates like a son of a bitch.

My main concern is not the front axle as its still in tackt. the rear axle is stripped because of the amount of power from the 2.8L V6 and am looking for a cheap fix to get my rig back on the trail ASAP and i cant seem to find a drivers side axle for a 86 Sami i took a quick measurment and i think the axle from a 95 tracker is the same length but im not sure?? i was thinking of swapping out the rear end from the tracker but its and offset rear end. any ideas of a quick fix??
