Title: Problems................
Post by: mntracker on August 19, 2006, 02:35:32 PM
Ok, got my 92 Tracker 5 speed stuck in a deep ditch today. Got it out finally, but now it doesn't go over 25 MPH. My guess- the clutch is hashed. Any other things it could be? And, if it is the clutch, how much to fix, or have someone else fix for me.

The clutch could be full of mud, debris or water.

Easy for a novice, but you may run into some rusty bolts on exaust, etc. Also manuvering the tranny back can be difficult but doable. Just take your time and be careful not to cross-thread any nuts or bolts. Get a helper for the lifting if it feels too heavy, preferably some one that has done a clutch before. When you drop the tranny, check for leaks. This would be a good time to replace the rear seal if you think it might leak. Easy, and only a $10.00 seal. Much easier than having to drop it again like I did just to replace a seal. Also a good time to check the transfer case, and do a good cleaning.

I have done a couple of these drunk (with friends) and would recommend leaving the beer in the fridge until it's done.  I did the last one myself in less than 8 hours. so a weekend set aside should be ok. Just try to have the parts all lined up even if you have to take some back.

Good luck! Adam

Yeah I am from Truman, down by Fairmont, Mankato. Did see some smoke, and smell, but I figured it was the tires, was in some high weeds. The front drive-shaft was wrapped in weeds, am going to dig deeper today.

Gonna have it replaced $100 for clutch on ebay, and $350 for labor.
