Well, I had been wanting to sell my Metro and get another Tracker for daily driving duties...
SO, I found this one on Craigslist.
It's a 1996 with the 16v
It only has 104,600 miles on it, and it is nearly rust free!! Just a spot or two that I have to stop.. really pretty nice.
Only a few door dings, nothing major, paint is decent, top is decent, interior is nice..
plus.. It's and AUTO, and I have been wanting an auto real bad... much better for daily driving..
Tires are new... darn... I don't have to replace them for a while yet.. LOL... wonder how long they will last...
I am going to keep this one mild and streetable, I will probably put a small lift and tires on it, and maybe a few other little things..
I am sure this will end up as my next trail rig, probably sooner than later, but the plan now is to just drive it.
I know I paid a lot, but it isn't eveyday you find a 96 with lower miles and this clean, no rust.. so I bit my lip and gave the guy the $1500 firm, he was asking..

Few more:

That is really nice.
reminds me of when I first bought mine ;D
Just alittle lift wont hurt it ;) ;D
-
wow, I just looked up the NADA price.... they say $2750 for low retail, 3650 for average and 4300 for high...
I guess $1500 wasn't so bad afterall ;D
-
looks great Q
cant wait to see what you do with it
and yeah thats the "blue book" for it
(am debating selling mine)
although I didnt realize "good miles" was considered 100+k
(cuz mine has 115k)
-
Yeah, mine is 10 years old, so that is less than 10K a year, and that is considered low... lol...
These days especially, actually, this is the lowest mileage vehicle I own now. . HAHA!!
it won't be for long though, as I put about 2K to 3k a month on my daily driver.
-
So......
Considering these are 4.62 gears...........right..............?
and I put my 5.62's in it.. ;)
Wonder how big of a tire I could get away with running??
Ah.. come on now.. I GOTTA keep this truck as a DD... don't I??
oh jeez.......... here we go again, I can just tell..
I am thinking of desert sand, with a clear coat, black aluminum wheels and fat floatation style tires.. kinda fat.. maybe some baja claws, maybe a safari rack, some bumpers, sliders, skids.... oh no....... this is just going to have to wait! it's a daily driver!!!
-
a DD with BIG tyres is newer wrong ;) ;D ;)
-
where you from, that looks like the one I seen forsale here in minnesota! man I need to get some cash together... nice score tho!

BTW: my 97 4dr with 6"inch lift and 31"s IS my daily Driver.
27.5 mpg average. Half freeway and half city driving.
Tires are very mild street tires.

Quad:
Nice buy! Really nice buy!  Plus, if the engine is pretty tight, you'll be getting half-way decent gas mileage - although a Metro is hard to beat.
The deals are out there. You just have to be patient. There is a clean '96 3-speed auto in a lot nearby that has been sitting for TWO years because the dealer has it priced too high. I'm hoping to be at the right place at the right time for that one...
I just scored an '87 Samurai with aftermarket t-case gears, OTT steering, spool, detroit locker, 33" MTs, a tach dash and more for 800 bucks! A LOT of the good stuff is going into my '88. the rest (including the tires) will be for sale soon.
So, how many Suzukis do you own now? I'm up to 4 temporarily
-
I have three now, the Turtle (93 kick) the 96 metro LSI 4cyl and the 96 kick.. I love all of them.
800 bucks for a sammy? DAMN!! SCORE!!
Hey Hot Rod.. how is the DD geared? 27mpg with 31's??? HELL YEAH!
I have been cleaning on it today, and it is darned tight.... super quiet, shifts great, runs smooth, no vibrations, or noises.. has been maintained... nice little truck for $1500...
-
Hey Hot Rod.. how is the DD geared? 27mpg with 31's??? HELL YEAH!
The stock 5:12s and the Speedo has been recalibrated (Lil reduction box on Speedo cable to T-case)
But like I said Mild A/T tires
With my BFG M/T tires, I lost 4 mpg.
Still have them, Just don't wear them right now.

The word I have is that your '96 and mine have 4.30 gears. Apparently '96 was the only year the entire US got the 16 valve with the 3 speed auto so they geared it higher for some reason.
Either way putting in 5.12 gears with 31's is my plan.

ah, really.. then 5.12's would be a nice upgrade, I need to play around with the gearing calculators a little, I am OK with the way it accelerates, and the speed vs rpm on the freeway, but I think I need to replace my TCC solenoid, as I am getting the code for TCC malfunction, and it is really hard to tell if the converter is locking up correctly, so I am guessing it isn't. I am not sure I want to go to 31's on it.. I am thinking more of 29.5-30... like a tall 235.. and once again, just a little lift and no trimming this time.
-
I can tell you from experience they're pretty damn slow with 31's and the 4.30 gears. :P Been running around on stockish 215's for a few months now while I worked on the gear swap, finding some better 31's, and time issues. Looks stupid but hey, it doesn't absolutely fall onto it's face on hills anymore! It wasn't horrible but I think that was the 16V's extra power. Properly geared it should pull some 235's or 30's nicely. Personally if I had that little honey you just got I'd talk to RockMolester about an OME lift, slap some 30's on, and then regear with 4.62's or 5.12's and call it good.

The 31's are coming soon...then the swap...

hey im not sure if im a little late or what not but have a brand new set of 235/75/r15's for sale...i bought em before i lifted my sammy and now im runnin 31s looking to go bigger and they are sitting in my garage till i can find them a new home. if your interested there wild country rvt's check them out there a good balance beetween off road and on road, i liked them on my stock sammy but they look goofy now. im still kicking my self but i would be relly interested in any sory of trad for 31s, or 32s...if this is too late then o well but just thought id throw it out there
-
so if you figure that at todays exchange rate your 1500us is about 1700cdn. you could not even find a decent 92 or 93 for that much money up here; never mind a 96 in good shape which will set you back at least $4000. so that is a great deal!!!
derek
it's just not fair for us though :(
-
heheh, it was his ASKING price, and he put it on Craigslist!!
He said it was in great condition, and he didn't lie.. I have the EGR code and a TCC code to sort out, but it won't cost much, and it runs fine the way it is..
I am TICKLED!!!
Hey Samurai guy, I might be interested.. I will PM you.
-
Looks good. I picked up one very similar, only red and with 90K miles on it for $3000 this spring with a 5 speed. So great score. :)
I run the 235's and it runs great, gets right up to speed. I figure once the new exhaust goes on and the EGR valve is fixed it should cruise great. Put a small lift up front to level the front end out with the rear, some agressive tread... :P
-
It cleaned up pretty damned nice!
It has a bunch of little door dings.. I swear.. door dingers must DIE!!!
I am DEFINITELY in the market for wheels and tires though.. lol.. it just isn't "RIGHT"

Leave the wheels, just slap some 235's on them.

Andy,
Looks like it's time to put 33's on the green one with a body lift, 30's on the black one with 2" sky spacers on the springs.....Good buy...
Later Tom K.

I would need some TC gears for the Turtle, to put 33's on it.. It pulls the 31's fine, but it wouldn't like anything any bigger...
I might go as big as 30's on the black one, but nothing agressive, it isn't going to see mud or trails, and just the occaisional off road excursion...
I need some light wheels, I do have my old alloys off the 93, I think I am going to clean them up and have them powder coated and put 235's on them for now..
who knows... lol..
I have 5 vehicles right now, and they could all use some customizing/repairs. SO... picking what gets what first is a challenge.. HAHA!
