Everytime I start my engine after letting it sit for a few hours a get a pretty big puff of smoke coming out from the exhaust. Could this be a valve problem? Maybe some oil is leaking through the valves and into the cylinder?
-
Hey,
Color of smoke would help you get an anwser quicker..
White is water blue oil black gas/carbon. You shoulds check your compression and check you water for oil and oil for water. If you use water or you use oil then that would narrow it down also...

The color of the exhaust smoke is white then after a few minutes it looks just slightly blue. When I changed my oil I noticed that the oil was kinda muddy looking. I guess that means I'm getting water in the oil. I haven't checked the radiator fluid or had a compression test yet.
-
If it's blue it sounds like valve seals to me ;)
-
I hope its not the valve seals, rebuilding a V6 will probably cost a fortune. :'( What about the water in the oil?
-
Let's hope there's no water in the oil, that would probably be a headgasket issue. I've never worked on a Suzuki V-6 but valve seals are normally not that big of a deal to replace. When is the last time you replaced your PCV?
-
Since I don't know what a PCV is, I probably haven't replaced it ;D. But, when I bought the truck 2yrs ago I know they replaced a whole bunch of hoses and gaskets but I didn't really pay attention to which ones.
-
PCV = "Positive Crankcase Ventilation" Valve. It's a valve used to allow air from your engine to be recirculated and burned. An engine generates positive crankcase pressure and that pressure has to go somewhere. The PCV allows it to be burned instead of released into the atmosphere. If it's blocked it can cause oil leaks and valve seal issues.

Should look something like this:

Costs about $3.00 US.
-
Look for a tube (black rubber) coming
from one of the valve covers, and leading
to the intake manifold or the non vacuum
side of the intake system.
-
about that water in the oil. if the pcv valve or it's vacuum port is clogged (oil gunk can get in there after time) then condensation from blow by gets in the crankcase and cannot get back out. make sure all is clear. I had this problem on my old Jimmy, just had to dig all that dried oil gunk from the vacuum port on the throttle body.
so don't fret yet! your head gaskets may still be good!
you should also take off your radiator cap with the motor running and look for bubbles forming there. a sure sign of a leak. MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS COLD when doing this.
good luck!

Thanks for all the advice. I'll try the things suggested before taking it to a shop.
-
you might have a leaking injector it could wipe out your rings
-
Today I took my truck to a friend's shop to have it looked at and he told me that it is probably leaky valve seals.  I guess its time to look for a new Zuk.  I can probably buy a few used Zuks for the price it will cost to fix it overhere.
How hard is it to change valve seals?  Do you have to mess with the timing and valve clearance to change the valve seals?
-
Most machine shops will recondition the cyl head for ya. When I lived in SC, a guy a the napa(they had a shop) would do it for me with my old inline ford motor. I am pretty sure your seal will have to be pressed out like most, with the head off the vehicle and disassembled. But I never messed with a zuki head before, so someone else here can prob tell you for sure. How much can a cyl head cost anyway compared to the cost of another ride?
-
It can be done with the head on,
use an adapter to presurize the
cylinder thru the spark plug hole,
remove the valve keepers retainer
and spring, pry the old seal off and
press new ones on with a deep
socket, and assemble reverse of the
takedown, It might be a PITA but it's
a good day spent getting to know
your Zuk in a more intimate way :o

Well, I can take a guess, one of my coworkers had his 3cyl 660cc Jimny done and it cost him about $2000, I think. Mine is a V6 so it would probably cost close to twice that amount $3500-$4000. Today I went to a car lot and I saw a 2 door version of my car for $2600. :'(

Oil is cheap, stock up and
drive it, if you aren't going
to fix this yourself it's going
to cost way more than it's worth
for the repair, now if it runs
good and has normal power
enjoy your trucklet

Try one of the High-Mileage Oils that have seal conditioners. I've heard some people have good luck with them.

Did you drive behind us last year Darin?
This was our basic philosophy.
