It sits in the corner of the dash, goes up in smoke when under water, and the vehicle seems to run fine without it. Anyone here know what it does?
I have a similar one in my SJ that the mainboard is broken on, and I never did look up what it is used for...

Buzzer?
-
I think it is part of the AC.
-
You can see where it plugs in. I take it normal Sammy's don't have this little grey box tucked underneath the glovebox?

Only if they had AC on them, at some point.
-
So its definitely part of the AC then??
If so, mine is coming out...! ;)
-
I'm pretty sure that is an AC component.
-
I have the same thing in mine and it flopps around every once in awhile.... I don't think my sami has ever had ac

Wiper Delay module?

I'm 99% sure it is part of the AC.

I know it isn't a WDM.

Maybe the wiring harness has been changed out at some point. You don't have one of the following....the double crank pulley, an AC switch in the dash, any AC brackets on the engine, any AC components under the dash, AC condenser, AC condenser fan, AC lines under the hood, AC evaporator, etc?
-
A quick scan of a Sammy wiring diagram indicates that it is most likely to be an AC controller.

I thought that was where my door ajar buzzer noise came from. Maybe not...I dunno just my two cents...Im probly wrong

It is not a buzzer. A buzzer is a small black box, about 2"x1"x1", and it actually says buzzer on it. IIRC, there is a buzzer over in that area. There is also a buzzer on the back of the instrument cluster.

It is the Air Conditioner system controller.

Yea, the new owner looked it up. Now I'm wondering what the chipset in the corner of my SJ-410 is though...
Time to find the wiring diagram I guess. :D

Post a pic and we can all have a guess ;D. Seriously, put up a pic. This sort of thing makes good archive material.

Once I get back from a work trip in Sacramento I think I will. I figure it can't be to usefull, as it is broken in half and still works. :P

I know this has been off the board for awhile, but i have that box also....ther is also a little grey 4 pronged switch next to,is that part of the a/c also. How much of that wiring can i "dispose of".It runs thru the firewall and into 2 connectors. Are they all a/c and can they be eliminated and how much under the dash can i get rid of....i am horrible at wiring schematics.I am trying to fix..repair..replace and clean up the wiring that the previous owners "modified"...thanks for the help....Joey

Yes it's A.C. Mines hangin too. Someone probably pulled all the a.c. stuff from the engine compartment in yours because it takes so much room and makes it hard to work on. A.C systems on samurais look like they were an afterthought.

Any idea how i can go about cleaning up the birds nest of wires...did you get rid of yours.
-
not sure what to do with it. if you have the other a.c stuff, you could group it all and sell it. otherwise just zip tie all the wires and tuck them out of site if you can live with it.
