My 94 5 speed tracker wont start anymore. It has plenty of gas ,new wires ,plugs, cap, rotor and coil but still no spark. Im guesing ECU computer ???, can anybody verify this and give me some tips on to get a new or used rebuilt one at a decent price?
It sometimes starts but it takes alot of kicking and cussing and cranking >:( >:( >:( >:(

Are you sure that the rotor is spinning. sometimes the gear cracks so it either spins on the shaft. Crank it and take the cap off to check it.
-
Ill try this first before spending the money on a ECU.
Thanks

If it is your ecu check out pick-n-n pull or tear apart

I don't think the ECU controls spark on that
year, you might get into the distributor and
check the pickup and igniter module, bad wire
or defective unit, either will cause this sort of
problem.

When it starts (sometimes). How does it run? Do you have full power. When you are cranking it. Does it seem like its cranking faster than normal. You could have jumped a tooth on your timing belt. Bring to TDC and check if rotor is on #1 cyl.
Just a thought.

Thanks for your reply's to my post. Now it stars up real easy but there is a ticking sound coming from under the dash by the ECU? It seems to idle and run just fine, same power as it was before. Before I Drive it any more I will take all your advice and check it out real good.
One question though if I did jump a tooth on the belt all I have to do is just re time the motor correct. Or is it more complex than this.
Once again thanks.

One tooth won't make it not run, but yes it's
just a retime the engine thing.
Ticking under the dash sounds like the main
relay, that would also make it not run, no ECU
power, no spark etc..............
-
Ok just got out of the garage and checked the Top dead center,it is right on ,checked the timing ,it is right on and everything seems ok except for the ticking under dash.
Thats weird when yesterday I had no spark, I mean none whats so ever ,now it starts up fine . I ll have to replace the main relay and see if that stops the ticking under the dash.
What does one of those cost and would my local auto store have one?
Thanks WILD

I have never replaced mine, you might find a
used one from Hawks or a wrecker, new, can't
imagine it being over $30 tops
-
GP-Sorensen makes those relays. They might have a web site. (Google Baby)
-
Main relay, where would that be located at and how big is it?
There is 3 small relays that kinda hang under the computer and there is a big black box thing bolted to the fire wall behind the clutch peddle, is that it.
Oh and the ticking is more like a faint buzzing sound . like two pieces vibrating on each other ,but Ive checked all that and it is all tight.
I also diagonosed my computer and every thing came back system normal( Code 12, 3 times)

It'll be one of the relays, on mine it has black/blue wires going to it.
-
I think the "big black box thing" is the electronic brake control. Of the 3 relays, one should be the main relay, one is the fuel relay and not sure on the third one!
-
Thanks guys I appreciate the help. ;D
-
One more question. The little black box control unit that sits on top of the coil, is that the ignition control module? That is where the noise is coming from and I think that has to do with the correct amount of spark Correct?
I haven't had a problem with it starting in some time, but that black box is ticking and I have lost some fuel milage. I think this is the problem, how about some 2nd opinions?
Thanks TJ
