Title: Is a 1995 my only option if...
Post by: keith on August 29, 2006, 09:10:34 AM
If I wanted a Trackick with the new style top, 16v engine and NO passenger airbag is 1995 the only year for this combo?  I think a 1994 would be the same except for having the old style top.

Why would you want a new style top?
They cost twice as much as the old type

I'd like the removable side windows.  But I wouldn't be totally opposed to the old style either.  I know you can get the sunrider top.

Also when did power windows become common on these?

Well, my 95 4-door has power windows (JLX Model Sidekick), but my 95 2-door has u-crank-em wiundows (JX model Sidekick).

Yep, my son loves my Tracker because he gets a great view of the road ahead.  Plus I have doubts about the safety of the back seat in a crash.  Not much behind the rear seat.

can't you just disarm the front pass. side bag?
you could just build a rear cage and tie the seat into it?
i feel better having my kids in teh rear now that i have a rear cage, still need to finish off the bottom where the seat will mount to the cage.

On my Galant if any part of the airbag system is non-functional the entire system is disabled.  I learned this when I wanted to go to a driver seat without a side airbag.  I also enjoy having my son up front and he enjoys it too.

That's what I like about my F-150, you can just lock out the passenger side air bag, with the ignition key, in a lock right on the dash.. in my Lincolns, you could disable them too.. but I don't see anything in my 96 kick that will let me, I will read the manual and see...

Suzuki doesn't like anyone fidling with the airbag system. At least thats what i can tell from the way it's build.

Thought i'd mention, our diesel vitara's all have the removable side windows-top; all petrol version have what you call 'the old top' :)

I have the 98 with the "new" top and I really like ther zip out side windows.  They are a bit of a pain to put back in but it is worth the effort.  Did the pre-95 models have any provision for roll up or some way to open the sides?

The replacement top cost about $150 less for an old style,  and I can get some free hardware for the 94 style top to replace the 98.

The older windows swing out, but not while you are going down the road..lol..

I LOVE zipping out my side and back windows on the 96, it's almost iike a safari top.. very nice...

I wish my 93 would do that... to convert the side windows, I guess you would need all the hardware from a 95 up??  the pieces on the side windows that the plastic dealy slips into (technical talk...lol)
