Title: sammy engine change
Post by: sidetracker17 on August 30, 2006, 05:57:04 PM
Ive purchased a 88 sammy with a spun barren i was wondering how hard it is to put a sidekick/tracker motor in a sammy. how does the electronic fuel injection run with that and the computer, or would it just be less trouble to rebuild engine

Well....if you can remove the old engine, you should be able to swap in the trackick engine.  They make adapter kits for the 1.6 to the samurai tranny, modified motor mounts for the engine, modified wiring harness for the 1.3 to 1.6 adaption.
BTW, a search probably would have turned up all the info I posted.

Since the engine blocks are the same, the simplest way to do that switch is to strip the intake stuff off the Samurai engine and install it on the Tracker engine.  That way, you don't need to change the wiring.  Just try to use the best parts from both engines (water pump, alternator, exhaust manifold, etc.) for the new engine.

If you want to use the tracker 1.3 fuel injection system, you'll need to carefully strip out the engine wiring and ECM (computer) and transplant it in the Samurai along with the engine.   Since it is a throttle body system, the wiring shouldn't be too complicated (I saw one at the pick-and-pull yard yesterday).  A good reference for this task is Chilton's Total Car care series CD (Import Trucks & SUVs 1970-1998 #C3050).  It has extensive wiring diagrams on all Suzuki/Tracker vehicles.

Hope this helps!

If you have (or are looking for) a 1.3 sidekick engine, it will be an '89 and it is (will be) carbed (1.3 sidekick engine is not common at all).  I suspect you have (or if you are looking for, will find) a 1.6 fuel injected engine.
If by chance, you do have a 1.3 carbed sidekick engine, PM me.

trackers or sidekicks 1.3s never had fuel injection.  the only 1.3 that was ever put in a sidekick was in '89 and it was carbed (not all 89 sidekicks had the carbed 1.3, some had the FI 1.6).

ya why take out the 1.3 to put in a 1.3, if your allrdy going to take it out, I would suggest the 1.6....

go with the 1.6. it has more power, and fuel injection works better than a carbuerator off road.

Well, do you have an '89 carbed 1.3 trackick engine?
Or is it a 1.6 and you just thought you had a 1.3, because they look similar.
