Title: Widebody flex shots - and maybe 37's ( pics attached ) - vote now!
Post by: ZeusZuki on September 03, 2006, 01:10:38 AM
Finally took my Kick Vit out for some flex shots.
Tyre pressures - 28 psi
Everything in place - no tricks.
Personally I am VERY happy with the results. Did a club trip last weekend and didn't even kift a wheel.

Not bad for IFS  :)

Thinking of fitting 37's  :-* - comments please  :D

What do you think?

Did you have fun installing the Calmini 3' with the V6 front end?

Why so much pressure in the tires??

suzukiboyoz - easy install. A few mods here and there for the drop brackets but that was about all. Works awesome  ;D

Quaddawg - street pressure. The V6 weighs a bit more than your 1600's. Tyres have soft side walls and I hate excessive body roll on the black stuff.

sweet. how much drop can you get (in inches or centimeters) up front with the Calmini kit?

I just measured mine (OME struts/springs) the other day when I changed out some tires, so I'm curious what you can get with the Calmini.

Thanks.

Hi Jeffry,

I have 9.75" ( 247mm ) of travel at each corner - not bad considering I have bugger all off set on my rims.

Well, I am happy with it anyway  ;D

What about you - what are you getting?

nearly 10-inches. Wow. Is that total travel, or just drop?

I can get a bit over 6 inches in rear, and 4 inches in front (all drop). If I add up-travel don't know what it would be.

If the Calmini kit gets you that much downtravel, I'm getting it ....

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff, remember that you will be limited by the available travel in the struts and shocks that you use. At this stage the OME struts have more availabkle travel than any other currently on the market but their shocks are not made for long travel. The Calmini kit will give more travel in the rear and can deliver even more with mods. I have strut spacers and OME struts in the front so mine hangs down a bit further than most but total available travel is still limited by the strut itself plus you need to keep an eye on the cv's for bind at full droop.

jeffry,

When you are talking suspension - always talk TOTAL travel because drop away is so variable.
Eg: If you mount your upper shock at a lower point than the next guy who is running all the same equipment then you will always have the potential for more drop away - BUT you will not have as much compression as the next guy who has his shock mounted to a higher point than you.
That is why I use total travel as a measurement ( this is what is important ).
FYI - the rear end is not even fully flexed yet either - still a bit to go. It measured 13" ( 330mm ) of travel at each corner.
I am very happy with these results as it is a bolt on kit. 4 hours in the garage to install and no headaches - gotta be good  ;D

And yes I have built several rigs over the years and it is so refreshing to just bolt on something that works without having to think about it  ;).

Thanks Zeus, good points. I'd say my numbers are fairly similar (I've got the Doetsch Tech shocks in rear, which have a longer travel than the OME).

Next time I'm out, I'll stuff the front and backs and get some measurements. You've got me curious now.

Thanks locjaw, really appreciate the compliment  ;D. I like it to, has come together pretty well really. All the benefits of the Mk 1 Kicks / Vits with a bit more ponnies  :D
I am seriously considering fitting my 37" wranglers but not sure if it is the way to go. Reliabilty is my biggest concern ( not sure if I can be bothered modifying the drive train to cope  ??? ). Oh well, I am sure it will all work itself out with time  ;)

jeffry - any measurements yet  :)

It's all over now. Modify, get it how you like it, then have a friend come by in his CJ with rims that bolt on the Kick. Once you bolt them on, it's all over but the cutting  ;D It's already a sweet ride, I cant wait to see it rolling on 37's  8)

Yeah I know what you are saying Zig  ;D

I got the idea from watching a video of "2005 Ultimate Adventure". I am starting a rock crawler build ( Mk II build ) and I sort of thought - why don't I just build myself a road legal off road rig. I built "ZeusZuki" Mk I and had a heap of fun in it but I really like the idea of a rig I can drive to and from the trail. This is where the Wide Body comes into it.
You see I bought myself a 2.5 V6 GV and this has given me the opportunity to really get into my Wide Body  :)

Also: I just love the look of rigs with BIG rubber that fill the guards. I am a huge fan of H 1's as well, I have been a huge fan of independant suspension ever since I built up an old Nissan and have found the clean lines and large clearance of the front ends very effective.

Well that is enough babling for now - so what have you been up to lately Zig? If I remember correctly you sold your X90 a while back - dude  ???

I purchased the X-90 to be my commuter vehicle. Now that I moved to Florida and I am only 1.6 miles from the office, no more need for a commuter vehicle. So I sold it and bought a Yamaha FZ-6. So now the ol-trusty kick has been returned to daily driver status and the bike is my play toy. I have still been around here on a daily basis but I dont have alot of time like with my old job.

I think you will like the road friendly trail rig. It is realy nice to toss your camping gear in the back and head to the trails for the weekend. While everybody else is trying to find an area to leave their tow rigs and un load everything. I'm already at camp, set up and riding.

Zig,

I new I would get a straight answer out of you  :)
Sounds like you are pretty well set up over there. Dont forget to post some pics on the "Adventure Forum". If I ever win the lottery ( read division 1 ) I'll come over to Florida and look you up. Maybe we could go chase some Bone Fish on fly or something  ;D, OR even catch up at Moab for the Jeep Jamboree  ;D. Hell I gotta win it first though  ;) ( or come to think of it - "How much is the missus insured for"  ??? LOL ).

Take care.
