Putnam makes them, I think Reese makes them... Actually, I think most hitch companies make them.

and yes, they replace that gas tank protector bar

here is one on the 'bay

If in doubt about just about anything, search Ebay, it will tell you a lot about what is available.. and usually the best deals too...

My Reese hitch took about an half hour to install.  It replaces the round bar, and bolts up to the factory holes.  It has a flat drawbar assembly, and If I were doing it again, I think I would have gone for the square receiver.

I know a good thing you could do. You can replace your rear bumper with a Calmini unit that's got a hitch plate built in which is perfect for a ball hitch.

There's just so many options eh!

my '91 tracker had an aftermarket draw bar with the flat, ball hitch welded to it installed when i got it.  not a ball hitch fan, so i got one of the old style jeep 'L' shaped hitch mounts, a 5 ton pintle hitch, and a couple of brackets and made my own.
i'm not a hitch ball fan as i get much more articulation on road and off with the pintle.  and no stronger mount on the market.  mine has a 2" ball forged into it just in case i need to rent or pull a ball hitch trailer in an emergency.  yes, they are a little noisy, but you always know where it is!

pics of it (and my new front bumper) should be on here this weekend.
