Hi Tyson,

get the trail tough spool instead, its alot less $$ and it drives very well on the street, I also run 30's on my daily driver with a spool with no turning problems at all and so much easier to install and spools last forever. my $.02 ;D

Bull hockey, you can use a sammi rear lock rite in a kick diff. I have did it on both kick diffs I owned. The side gears must match your lock rite or use your old ones. Buy new side gears if you can for extra endurance.

That's my vote too.  I run the mini-spool in my green "turtle" and it actually does just fine on road.

How does a mini spool work and how is it better? Is it appropriate for the front also?

I thought the mini spool locked everything up solid in the rear, how is that for turning on dry pavement? If it's good I'd put one in, I hear so many conflicting opinions about the lockright

The spool does just lock your rear end solid.  It isn't bad, but it does tend to chew your tires up a little faster and you squeak a bit when making tight corners.  But the behavior is pretty tame, as it will always act the same.

Then again, with 30" tires you shouldn't have a much of a problem with the lockright binding up in the rear.

What does the tires size have to do with binding?

Im gonna break down and buy a spool I think..  I heard they are kinda sucky on wet or snowy roads though.

But hey, for 100 bucks, a fully locked rear is priceless offroad.  After I get the 30" tires next spring to replace my running-down 235's I got now  I wont have anything else on my list of things to get.

Smaller tires means less stress.  I think that is how it goes...

One thing about the spool, you increase your turning radius a bit by using one  :)

The lockright itself from a sam or a kick are the same. I don't know about the sidegears bcoz i bought them without. Anyway I had a sam lockright and a kick lockright and i coud not find the difference...

get a spool. there very predictible, you always know that it will be locked up, i belive you can only run a spool in back but not 100% on that one. lockers cost more. Spools last forever, and they are almost no different on road, id run a spool, ill have one in my sammy in a few days! trust me spool is easier, better, and cheaper.

You can run a spool in the front, but I would recomend against it.   With the Zuki's, just spend the extra hundred and put a locker up front.  An ARB would be perfect.  Then again, there aren't many area's you even need your front end locked up except for rocks and maybe mud (I don't do mud.  :P)

With the front locked up the front end binds up horribly when turning and you will twist your front axel shafts.  When my front end locker was binding up it was a pain to turn and the radius was through the roof.  And when you let go of the steering wheel you could break your hand if you stuck it in there it whipped back so fast.

I believe vitara-dave is correct gentleman, it is the side gear that makes a difference, and it may depend on the year of the Sammi.
