Title: Fuse In Wrong Slot, Now Problems
Post by: dannerino on September 17, 2006, 08:36:37 PM
2002 Grand Vitara XL-7

Had a blown fuse for my lighter/stereo.  Replaced it with spare in fuse box lid and all was well, until I noticed that my fan was suddenly not blowing.  Since fan wasn't important, I ignored it temporarily.  Then dash lights not working.  I had what seemed to be a phantom rotating fuse on the blink (fan probably was working at this point, didn't check).

Bought another fuse, as they only put 1 of each size in the lid as extras.  It looked the same at the parts store, but ever so slightly different when installing.  The tines (metal parts that stab the fuse slot) were just a little thinner, but it fit fine.

Put it in, started the car, which revved very high for 2 seconds then died.  The display on my stereo read "S Y S" and my check engine light came on.  Upon further inspection, I was being overly efficient and had put in a fuse for the "ENG" slot where none existed before.  Ooops.  After removing it (and it was not blown), the car starts but idles very slowly and dies.  I can keep it running by staying on the accelerator, but once I let off, it dies.  Stereo still displays "SYS" and check engine still on.

This is like some hole into another dimension isn't it?
