Title: aftermarket rims
Post by: ToK on September 18, 2006, 07:29:53 AM
Hi,  I've been lurking around here for awhile now trying to learn as much as I can before I start to modify my Tracker.
I've read many times how there aren't many rims out there that will fit an 03 Tracker.  I had an old set from my 89 tracker that I decided to try just in case, and they appear to fit fine.  Was the problem with aftermarket rims the lack of steel rims, because the ones I have are aluminum.  They were taken off of an old Ford 4x4 (if I remember right).

My next question: with these rims being wider than the originals, and with greater backspacing, how do i determine how big of a tire I can fit without trimming.  Also, I've read that Digger's spacers work on the GV, but will they work on the 2-door Tracker, like mine?

Thanks,
Travis

I wouldn't go much bigger than a 31" tire. I put 265/75/16's (almost 32") on my tracker and had a fair amount of trimming to do even with 3" of lift and 3" body lift.

As for spacers, I run the boondox ones coupled with bds coils for 3" of lift.

I just finished putting on 30's and had to cut alot with 2 inch body lift and boondox spacers. I still
rub in reverse at full lock.

Interesting, I have heard that 30's should fit pretty good with only the boondox spacers.  Some have said to fit 31x10.50's with some fender trimming.  Is this because you used the stock rims with little or no backspacing ?? (p.s I have 01 2dr tracker)

I used aftermarket steelies with 3.75" backspacing and 1 1/2" wheel spacers. I think I have too much backspacing because the outerost lugs on the MT's rub on the inner part of the fender right
below your feet. I just cut and grinded some and now I have no rubbing what so ever, even offroad with tire pushed up I have not experienced rubbing yet. The tire is also 9.5" wide so a skinnier tire would have no problem.

Question for everyone who has a set of 16" steelies

Are they 16 x 7 w/ the stock 3.75 backspacing?

How much did they cost?
