Alright, so I'm doing a Landcruiser solid axle swap into my tracker, and my question is, with leaf springs in the rear (YJ's) and coils in the front (XJ's), is around 5" of slip in the driveshaft going to be enough, or am I gonna risk having it pop out? Seems like the stock slipshaft has about that much travel... I'm concerned that I'm gonna need a longer slipshaft

sounds long enough, not like youre going to have a lot of flex in the rear with leafs... since you are doing it, why not do a fourlink in the rear, just cut the brackets off of your sidekick dif, weld them on the toy diff, should bolt right in. if it's too high up, just cut the frame behind the door and move it down 5 inches and re-weld it. should work a lot better
-
I'd build a new setup if I was gonna do links... biggest factor is the cost of the springs themselves. I'll have to do an anti-wrap bar anyway, so there's still lots of custom work either way
-
why dont you use your factory 3 link setup? the id of the tracker housing is a perfict fit to the od of the toy axel, cut the track axel at the trailing arm and spring perch and weld it to your toy axel, then your trailing arms bolt on in almost the factory position,as well the shock, you will have to extend the top mount so you can weld a mount to the top of the toy housing, ill take some picts and post them latter, imm working on this rite now ,but i have a lot of lift and am making the trailing arms longer,
-
I wouldn't be satisfied with the stock stuff. The control arms need to be quite a bit longer, and the upper link isn't satisfactory, IMO... and I'm selling the Calmini lift to fund the project.

nOOb :P beats me, I just could not pass up the chance at calling you a noob ;D

the factory 3link has a lot of flex, you'll never come close to it with leafs. for all the welding you intend to do, just lenghten the arms by a foot or so and mount them lower on the frame. get an XJ front spring, some 2inch spacers and there you go, it's an awsome setup.
I would try to get really long coilovers, I see them on dune buggys, theyre like 4 foot long, use those, you'll have amazing flex.
NOOB!

I have seen those joints before, dont know if I would trust them on an aplication like that. also, the stock tierod end looking thing looks like it flexes more.
-
thoes heim joints are the same things spider tracks ,and manny other offroad manufactors use ,they are rated at 18000lbs,ive ben told i wont have anny probs w/ them.they are used on fullsize rigs w v8s,. ive had one , on a three link under my sammy for a wile now and it shows no wear, this is a quality rod end,3/4''fine thread hardened unit ,not thoes cheep farm suppily jobbes, ;),i had one on the panhard rod on my sammy front and it ripped the mount out of the frame and didnt dammage the joint, and that one was 1/2'',
-
correction on the load rating, radial load rating28,081 lbs ;)
-
That top mount looks just like a larger Calimini upper control arm.
-
When the hell did this become about setting up a three link in the rear? ??? ;D
I'm still fairly sure that if I were to use coils in the rear, I'd use the mounts (maybe) and that's about it. I'd definately go with something like heims or johnny joints. And again, I'm getting rid of my Calmini lift, so I won't have that to use.

Been running a 3 link in the back of my trac for 6 years with 1 1/4" dom, 34" long with 3/4" hiems (7 total) never had a hiem fail yet. And I have beat it to near death.

We used Sammy drive lines slip sections for our SAS, and they never pulled out on us. Are you going to build some type of SYE ?

How long is the slip section on a Sammi compared to a Track/Kick?
