Title: newbie gear help
Post by: JBOBSAMUR on October 13, 2006, 03:59:52 PM
Hello everyone,
I got my 87 tintop a few months ago and have already added RRO SPOA,arched springs, longer shackles, and 33' TSLs.What should I do so I can drive it on the street/offroad and be in the torque curve? Can I just add Tcase gears or do I also need R&P gears? I have tried the geer calculator on IZOOK but I would like some advice before i just buy the 6.5:1 calimini Tcase gears.

thanks for the help'
jason

I went with the trail tough gear set (6.4) because it has better road manners and will be going to 4.30 diff gears so I can drive it on the street and not tear or rip the t case long arm off of the frame anymore, I welded the long arm on the inside last time and it has held up well so far but I can still hear the t case bounce off of the body under the drivers seat. If I was to do It again I would go with there 5.0 to 1's set because I drive it on the highway alot and tow trailers all the time and they are alot cheaper and I could then run 4.62 diffs.

I went with R&P gears out of a tracker for my samurai with 31x10.5's there alittle to steep but I run 70-75 on highway in 5th gear no problem.

Just depends what $$ you have and if you can get the R$P cheap like I did, then its the way to go.... otherwise Tcase is nice for the lower low gearing.
