Going to do the widening "Hagen special" and have a few questions. The first is do you have to make the spacers for the axles ? I was going to upgrade later. If I don't space out the axles will they pop out? ???

Likely under droop the inner cv will pull right out of the cup and separate. I'd make the spacers. Shouldn't be too hard.

I made mine out of the inner triple flange off of a couple of old busted CV's I had laying around the shop.

Kevin, I just did this last month and upgraded to the 26 spline stuff. I did the mods to the housing too. I should have enough left over stuff to hook you up. I bought a bunch of the long side 22 spline axles from Hawk that we can cut off and build your spacers. Also searched high an low in San Diego for replacement bolts. Napa has large metric stuff it's not cheap though.
Speaking of this widening. Does anyone else's coils rub on the bump stops after this mod and make a loud squeaking noise? I am running the OME springs. Freakin annoying!

Ya, mine go Boing, I give them a shot
of spray lube, it helps them slip and not
be as noisy

I made these to fix the problem

The other side has a 1" aluminum spacer, and grade
8 SAE bolts, not as $$ as metrics

This happened to Chunks rig too. ??? We unscrewed the bumpstops since they didnt work in this application anyways. We added a bumper on the strut. Im asumming your not running a spring spacer right... just the ome springs?

My springs make noise also but I've learned to tune it out. One problem I have run into is that I keep grenading DS inner cv's. I put 2 extra spacers in as per Mike but still they will over extend and pop. I was working on it today and looking through my box of spare axles when I discovered that the stock PS inner cv cup is about 1/2 inch deeper than the stock DS cup. So I set about cutting up a DS and PS inner cup and welding the 3 bolt flange to the PS cup and now I have a deeper cup to hopefully help stop this from happening again. I'll find out the next time I take it out and wheel the p out of it ;D

If you have time, pull the spring out, and then raise the control are up untill the axil shaft is straight across.
Unbolt the 3 bolts and slide the cup out twords the wheel and see how much room you have. Them make up a spacer that will work best for you.

Widen IFS by using a solid axle ;D!HAHA
Then Make It Hert!!!

Hey biker, it sounds like you should just add another spacer. Try what lil truck said and see if thats correct. I dont think you should be making a custom cup cause that will make replacements difficult. It would be smarter to add another spacer if thats whats neccicary.

Thanks Mike, I was going to add a spacer but I had these busted parts laying around so I thought I'd give it a try and see what happens. That reminds me, I need to go hit the wreckers to score a couple more axles.
On a slightly different thought, has anyone looked at cv's from a newer S15 type vehicle. They measure the same length and look beefier but would need to be modded also, In fact they remind me of the tora cv's.

i have a question, why would you widen a ifs frontend without also finding longer cvs?i understand that widening a a arm makes the arm longer, wich will give you more travel wile also relieveing some cv angel, if you widen a arm and just use spacers on cv flange to make up the difference in axel length doesnt that make cv angels worse? i like ifs but am droping it due to reliablity issues, but have a 4door i want to make a prerunner out of ,was thinking of cutting a toy ifs frame and replacing track front w/it,and using the total cayos a arms and t 100 axles, but thats expensive

The #1 reason to widen is so you can use a 3 bolt flange on both sides. Then you only need one spare.
