I'm really tempted to add a traction device to my trucklet, seeing how I'm likely going to have to swap the R&P's to 5.12s anyways
I do not want to remove the "actuator" in the front diff, so this limits me from installing an e-locker or an LSD
This is fine however, as my fiancee still would like to have the security of being able to shift on fly, and I could leave the front hubs locked in the Winter
As I live in Canada, our climate changes often, and we deal with ICE and snow on a regular basis in Winter
This being said, I also live in Calgary, where we have really huge high speed overpasses, so I'm thinking that a rear locker would not be the safest solution, especially if traction is limited
(also having a 5 speed, it's harder to coast through corners as with an Auto)
So the only solution left is the Calmini LSD they offer for my 2.0L
does anyone have any experience on whether it's worth while?

no idea on this part, won't fit in my 03.

nice info zr2! if i read that correctly the 3rd from a 98 will bolt to my stock rear with 4.62's?! i know the diff in the 03 apparently has some differences.. i'd like to get the lsd in my trakcer too. how is your lockright on the road?

With all the hassles of this LSD I am really just contemplaiting saving my pennies and buying an ARB for the rear
I think I'm getting lazy but I just love my shift on the fly, and I do not want to do anything w/ the front diff... that air acutator and open axel can stay!
It's been really icey out here in Calgary the last few days, and I must say, even the big trucks w/ their LSD Dana 44's\60s sure seem to be spinning on single tires most of the time. So I figure heck, our trucks are so light that open axels are just fine
So a rear ARB would be a perfect solution if I need extreme traction offroad

Believe me - the second that air acuator fails to engage the four wheel drive you'll start to curse it! Believe me - I know!

how many miles did you have on it when it failed? -just curius :-\

I love my shift on the fly too...
I love this place. I was sure I was stuck with open diffs front and back...Any other options?

Seeing how this is also my daily driver, I think asides from throwing in some 5.12 r&p's in the front my little truck should be quite capable with a rear ARB
Keeps it simple for the other half to use and I will still throw on some front hubs for the spring/summer to prevent excess wear

I did bring the Calmini LSD in for my 2000 Tracker. It did not fit so I called Calmini and they said the Canadian Trackers must be different from the US Trackers. Not the answer you want when your third member is on the bench in pieces. >:(
I did find a company that is shipping me a complete older third member with the ARB locker installed and the same 4.625 ratio to match the front that is a bolt in. ;D
I too am in Calgary and prefer the ARB locker idea anyway (for the same reasons you listed) but ARB did not have a locker for this year so I tried the Calmini.

I was at about 70k. I've got about 80k on it now. Now the "4WD" light comes on everytime I start the car and goes off after a minute or too of driving - this electronic four wheel drive stuff is starting to get to me.

Have you tested the switch in the Transfer Case - sounds like that could be the cause - that switch controls the electronics.
How to test: Wait till the 4WD lamp goes out when it should be on - then ground the Black/Orange stripe wire that goes into the 4WD Controller (small black box under the dash just above the brake pedal switch). Note: NOT the Orange/Black stripe. If the lamp comes on - it's the switch, the cabling to the switch or the black wire grounding from the switch.

I was comin home from work the other day and I stopped by the families old camp spot. I noticed that when i locked it ( on the fly ) It took a min for the 4wd light to come on. Thanx for the hint Ian. I'll give that a try myself. Im wondering that switch wire runs into the transfercase from the switch under the dash. If so, couldn't you check that connection as well.? Mabey It's got a bad connection there? Just a thought.
