Has anybody done this? Ideas? Im trying to get the lowest gear ratio possible for my tracker.
If you could couple a 1.6 kick engine in a sammy, why couldn't you put a sammy 5 speed with sammy t-case in a kick?driveline angles ?, Fabbing up mounts would not be a problem.
Any other concerns?

If you are going for the lowest possible gear ratio.....keep the trackick engine, tranny and tcase.....then add the samurai tcase behind that. Regear your diffs to 5.12, if they aren't already (or 5.38, if you can find them). Put 4:1s in the tracker tcase, put 8:1s in the samurai tcase, then you can start breaking stuff. ;D
-
Wow... that would put the user just a bit lower crawl ratio then I have right now... and that is while they are in 4th gear... :o
;D
-
The idea is to go a little lower and to have gear options.
-
I think simply have a 4:1 Sammy T-Case behind the stock Tracker T-Case with 5.12 gears will give you plenty of options. That gives you a 2:1, 4:1 and 8:1 options allowing you to go down to 160+ for your overall crawl ratio. Throw in an automatic transmission and you should be able to go as slow as you need.

Do you have to do some cutting on the tracker tcase? I know there is the ott and kicker3 out there. We were wondering if there was any other alternatives that would be cheap. A few of us have some extra sami parts laying around ....
-
Yeah, that is what you would be doing....basically building a kicker 3 type setup. The front output would need to be cut off the tracker tcase for clearance of the front driveshaft.
-
You can do it, there are a couple posts talking about it. The only one I was able to find quickly was from a few years ago.

I am trying to find stand alone set up...

Like switching to a divorced transfer case?
-
The topic is titled : : sammy 5speed w/t-case in tracker/sidekick. A few of us wanted to know if this is possible...
-
you do this.

Details please. What is all done?

From the looks of it.....cut off front output of tracker tcase and fill the hole left....use the tracker driveshaft slip yoke, mate it to the samurai flange (they use the same size ujoint, IIRC), to make the intermediate shaft....use some bracing to marry the samurai tcase to the tracker tcase.
Still basically a kicker 3 type setup....just made a little different.

If all your trying to do is put a Samurai 5-speed in, just get a kit for putting a 1.6 in a Samurai from Trail Tough. Then all you have to do is make it mount.

Thanks TJ & Jerry,
I've got to do something as well. That or go back to 31's. It looks like if I can nab a sami t-case and deal with having the traker down for a while I ought to just do the kicker Three of try to do the make shift version. I'm pretty bold when it comes to suspension and motors as I Know them pretty well. However I'm pretty much a coward when it comes to gears. I Just don't know them that well and I've destroyed a couple of rear ends in the past. So there's the hesitation.

i am basically doing the same thing all theses guys are showing here by cutting the fornt output off the tracker tcase but instead of the weaker sami tcase i am using a topshift toyota tcase and will be installing 7:1's in that case my rig is sased with toyota axels running 529's so this set up will be alot stronger. oh i also made my own adapter to make the toyota tcase a divorced tcase. i will post pics soon
i have added pics to my cardomain site check the link in my sig

Iver been away from the net for a few days now. After reading some of these post I think Im going to start hunting for my sammy t case and and do alot more researce to get this job done. As far as breaking stuff, well there is always the danna 44 option.
