Just recently my fan (heat/air) has stopped working on the lower speeds. When i slide the fan speed lever it only works on the 3rd and 4th position. so basically i can only get heat or air at tornado or hurricane speeds ;D
is this common?
it blows great at the higher levels, but in the first 2 lower speeds you get nothing. I'm hoping it's just a fuse or something. Since i still get heat and air just fine i'm thinking it's not a total heater core failure. (hoping at least) but the fan blowing on high all the time is annoying when i'm trying to talk to my girl or other pasengers. it's kind of loud.
has anyone had this issue b4? and is a simple or semi simple fix? or is it time to shop for heater cores.
any help, thanks

happened in my dads Xterra last fall or so. It just needed soemthing, like a regulator or something simple. Someone else should have better info on this stuff

Yeah, its a common problem I've heard of. Probably the blower motor resistor. It should be behind the glovebox door, attached to the blower motor. You can probably get a new one for around $30 or look for one at a junkyard. I haven't replaced mine yet, but need to.

You might also just take a look at the switch. On my SJ wires on the back of the lever switch had simply broken off and needed to be re-soldered on.

yep.
it's just on the top, right in the front, held in with one screw, and has a 4-wire connector plugged into it. you'll need to remove the glovebox to get it out.
I wouldn't get a used one, they're prone to breakage, get new, and you're good for another 10 years. Price them at the Suzuki dealer and the Chevrolet/Geo dealer.

I not really sure what your dash looks like but i beilive its the same as my 96'..Someone correct me if im wrong. But my dash has the switch mounted above were the radio goes and mine died about 4 weeks ago...anyway what worked for me was i pulled the radio out and pulled the control head down enough to get to the switch and my switch is in 2 parts on mine...the top part with the little lever you push over and the bottom parts attached to the control head. I pulled the top part of and its comes completly off and on the bottom you will see a metal plate with a bunch of contacts(same thing on the side mounted on the control head) What happens is when you slide the switch over you make these contacts touch and it turns the blower on whatever speed you set it to...my problem after looking at it for about an hr i realized the contacts werent touching any more. So in 5 min i carefully bent the ones on top of the switch down a bit more and held it together with my hand and it came on....sorry for being a bit long winded but if the other ideas dont work try that one....hope you get it working tis getting cold out... :-\no pics right now but i can take some if you need it....

same issue with my 95... I never really considered even trying to figure out why it did it, but now that the answer is out there, I might as well fix it. Thanks LilRed and Uncivilized!
