ive read that track/kick ring and pinions (and possibly 3rd members) can be swapped into a sammy. so...can samurai ring and pinions be swapped into my 89 sidekick? what about the 3rd members? i still have the 10 bolt axles with stock gearing, but need lower gears, and would like 5.83's, but they're impossible to find for a sidekick. however, a friend of mine is giving me the axles out of his samurai, since he's swapping in dana 44's, and id like to use the gears out of them (they have 5.83's) in my sidekick. thanks.

the sami ring and pinion will fit in the front 3rd of the tracker, but not in the rear, the rear is much larger in size. and i beleive that the rear 5:83 for the sidekick 3rd are really hard to find.

The sidekick tracker rear ring and pinion is huge compared to the sammi so the rear is out of the question. Read this, it will help answer your question.

You may or may not of read this posting but it should explain why you would not be able to.
Hope it helps at least a little. ???

ok, thanks. do you know where i can get some lower gears? ive never seen 5.83's for a 10 bolt track/kick, only 12 bolt.

could it be possible to swap the rear samurai axle into the sidekick? i dont think it would be to hard to weld on the necessary spring perches and stuff?

The TracKick Transfer case has a centered rear output. Thus, the TracKick rear axle's differential is also centered, so you have a driveshaft problem if you use a Samurai rear axle on a TracKick. Then there is a possible width problem, a possible structural strength problem...
You might have better luck getting a 12-bolt TracKick axle with 5.83s -- assuming such an animal exists. kirknd4spd's post suggests that such an axle exists. Personally, I don't know if it does.
Hope this helps

Calmini don't list the 10 bolt rear 5:83s but I have them in my Vit. IIRC they used to list both types, I guess that they stopped the 10 bolt version.

yeah, calmini doesnt make them for 10 bolts anymore. so i guess i need a 12 bolt? anyone wanna donate one?
