Title: Does the auto hubs come apart
Post by: wheresmyhat on November 05, 2006, 10:50:00 PM
Does anyone know a link or can tell me how to take the auto hubs apart just like the manual ones. I have searched and only come up with the manual diagram but nothing for the autos.

They are on the work bench. I have removed the covers and looking at them one seems to be engaged and the other one not engaged.  ???

One I can turn, the other one I can not.

I don't think they're supposed to come as apart as the manuals.

FYI, I just swapped out my auto's for manuals this past weekend due to them disengaging when i went into reverse.  I noticed the spring inside one of them was fairly loose.

They're not worth rebuilding though.

You can swap manual hubs on there just by bolting them on.  It was the easiest thing i've ever done on it.

Yup. If you are gonna wheel (or anything else), you'll get better results with a set of manual lockers.

Since there are a lot more TracKicks laying about in the junkyard (I assume that is what you have), you'll find manual hubs that are servicable and will work a lot better.

You may need to get out and lock them up in unpleasant weather or knee-deep mud, but they will ALWAYS work for you in a predictable manner no matter what the driving conditions are as compared to autos.

Plus, if you look carefully on the bill of sale (it's VERY fine print), there is a section that says you agree as a Zuk owner that you will go salvage yard spelunking if necessary to keep your truck running.   ;D

ack,

They come apart really easy. Just do what I did.
Back up for a while and then go forward in a hurry - at about 4000rpm they will engage with the help of about 80hp ( mines a V6 ) then they come apart BIG TIME  ;D
No pics, but quite funny to see.

Put manual hubs on, I will be  ;)

I would do that the only problem is I sold them to a guy on egay and just want to make sure ones not messed up. To me they looked good to go but last minute I rechecked them they did not turn the same. I don't want to send this guy a bad part.
I went junkyarding today at the pick and pull for another one but they only had a 2wheel drive. I grabbed some other stuff so no loss but I do want to find another one for this guy.

if'n I was you, I would send the buyer your sincerest and abject apologies along with a refund explaining what you discovered about the hubs at the last minute.

No point in making someone cranky at you.

Plus you'll be doing everyone a big favor by taking another set of auto hubs out of circulation.   ;D

Or at least, re-list them with a stong warning at a low "buy it now" price...

I actually refunded him not to long after he paid, with an explanation. He was thankful expecially since he didnt ask if they worked until after he paid. He will probably still buy a set off me but at the same price I am paying for them from someone else. Thats business in the used parts department.  ;)
