Title: whats a good replacement alternator?
Post by: daddyizzle on November 06, 2006, 02:50:44 PM
Autozone says the alternators bad. I am going out to try tightenening the fan belt. I would have to have it benchtested as well. This is on an 86 sammy with A.C.  I plan on keeping it stock for now. I may add an air compressor later but probably not. Autozone wants $100. for their Duralast and I'm not sure on that brand. All advice appreciated.  Adam

Did you try the body ground before you had them test it? Depending on how they hooked up their tester, the bad body ground might show up as a bad alternator. I'm not saying the alternator isn't bad as well, but every zuk I've seen, including my own have all had weak, questionable body ground wires and they all seemed to work better when I add another heavier one.

If you want to upgrade petroworks has a 110 amp kit

O.K. Digger. I will try the body ground. The one that goes off the neg bat to the firewall looks brand new though. I will by pass it and try.

Thanks Yoak. I will check petroworks if its bad for sure.

I'm just gathering some info right now. I also checked the belt for tightness. No screech either.

The A.C. won't even kick on. I'm hoping when I figure this out I have a working A.C. system, and faster wipers and blower motor. Adam
