Title: supercharger
Post by: havoc1969 on November 09, 2006, 11:29:44 AM
on ebay, they have a electrical driven supercharger for the 1.6 tracker/sidekick.  I have a 97 4 dr kick.  Do you think they would be worth the money , at only a few hundred dollars.  It is a daily driver with moderate offroading planned.

It's a scam.  You can't get free energy from an electrically driven blower of any kind.

Don't bother

Do not bother. A turbocharger actually gets around a third of you engine's horsepower through heat and kinectics from exausting gasses to get you some worthy boost pressure so it is not that easy to get air in you cilinders... How powerfull is that thing? It will probably restrict you airflow at higher rpms.
If you want to put more air in your cilinders get yourself a cold air intake, or better, make you one and get a nice flowing air filter with the money you saved and perhaps a nicer flowing carb, intake header...exaust header, you know true and tried stuff, your wallet is the limit.

Yep, a scam. A guy here at work bought one for his honda even after we told him it was crap. It is basicly a boat bilge pump with a 3" rubber adapter on it. He wasn't able to get his money back after he found it didn't do anything but make noise. After it was installed it was not returnable. A 300 dollar mistake he made.

Do a search on turbo and supercharging on about.com. or other sites and you will learn why this can't ever truely work.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will skip it...

I would like to get a cold air intake from k&n or one of those companies, now to find out which one is my best value/performance.
