Post by: zookaholic on November 14, 2006, 07:07:02 PM
I am building my samurai for off-road use only, wondering peoples sugestions on tires, im thinkinf doing the 33x13.5x15 LTB swamper or a 34x10.5x15 LTB or 33x12.5x15 or 33x10.5 bogger, anyone have some input, i will be using for rocks, trails and mud! I have an spoa w/ 2" springs and missing link in the front, i have clearence for this, and i will be doing gears!

there both pretty good tires, boggers wear faster than a swamper.
swampers are good all around rocks mude pavement, boggers are pretty much mudd, they dont really like rock to much, tend to spin on top of them and chunk out on them.
size is up to you,i would go with the 10.5 or 12.5 out of the pick but thats just my liking.

id go with the 33x13.5 LTB's. they seem like a better all around tire than the bogger.

34x10.5x15 LTB ,people always point out how 'skinny' my tires are...   then we wheel, then they are impressed with the skinny tire!  my 2cents.  i think quaddawg had posted up a documented talking about tire width somewhere..........

I would also go with the 10.50 LTB. swampers are a great all around tire, and for the mud a skinny tire does better than a wide tire. My dad has a samarai with a 400 sb chevy he uses it for mud bogging, he always runs a 34x9.50 swamper and does great. but then he went to a 35x14.50 bogger and it sucked, the 34x9.50 does a whole hell of a lot better.

I have the 34x10.50 Super swamper LTBs on my samurai and they are great in all terrain. I have them on an 8 inch rim and they float in the sand. I dont even have to air them down. They also grab very good in the mud and self clean easily.

Good choice,  I have 11.50's at the moment, and wish they were a little more narrow...

Skinny tires definitely "key" better..

I wish I had that link around handy, makes some good reading, and makes a lot of sense.

I agree with the narrow is better for mudd, just think about a pizza cutter it digs in and gos where you steer it, if it were wide, then it would plow and slide.

I read somewhere that the boggers were hard on a suzuki's drivetrain. Anyone know?

Don't be foolish, Samurai's are the toughest $100 - $500 4x4's I've ever seen!

Narrow is better for light vehicles on rocks too...  it's the "keying" factor..

damn, I wish I could find that article...

very true, I think i saw an article simlar on the net, dont really remember the site but it was saying how light trucks do a hell of a lot better with a narrow tire.
Plus i like the look of a nice tall lean tire hahah
