Title: Noisy front end after front strut install - 96 Tracker
Post by: sklope on November 17, 2006, 07:09:45 PM
Just installed new struts and the front end makes noise when turning sharply after the vehicle has set a while. The noise sounds like a bushing rubbing. Had the front end aligned and the mechanic said that it sounds like it may be the upper bushing on the struts. He said that I may want to put grease or vasoline on the bushing. Has anyone else had this problem and if you did is this how you repaired it??? Thanks!

If the top nut wasn't tightened correctly, then the top strut mount might make a squeaking noise.  When you loosen these, and the strut shaft turns with it, it makes a squeaking noise.  I'd be checking over the bolts and make sure they're tightened correctly.

You shouldn't need any grease at all.

Checked the top nuts on the struts today. Found out that the washer that fits over the bushing was upside down ::). After flipping these washers and tightening the nuts back up, NO NOISE!!! Thanks for the help ;D!
