Title: 1.6 16V on propane?
Post by: imgonnasnap on November 18, 2006, 02:15:36 PM
I've got a samurai, and want to step up to a 16V, but don't want to deal with the EFI wiring. can the stock intake manifold be used for a propane converison?  how is everyone else doing theirs?

perhaps use a 1.3 intake manifold with propane carb on top?  seems a bit asthmatic, though. what are your guys thoughts?

The wiring on the 16v install is SUPER easy with Trail Tough's harness. Plus I dont beleive that the 1300 manifold will fit on the 16v.

yes the manifold will fit, it will jsut cut down flow. if you were to remove the piece that seperates the manifold into two holes, and make it one oval shaped opening on the manifold, it gains back alot of the lost power on the 1.3 manifold

You will also need to make up a plate to go between the head and the manifold to block off the injector openings. On my 8V I opened out the ports to match the 1.6, doesn't take long with a decent grinding tool although you have to be careful around the oil ways.
I think it would well worth the extra expense to get the TT harness and run the EFI. My 1.6 was a carb model and I didn't want to mess about too much. I'll be converting it to TBI next spring.

I was looking at the TT harness on their website, don't you have to have the stock harness for them to modify? or am I reading that wrong?  i dont have a harness for it.
