OK, so I have shiny new Sidekick 30% stronger axles from Calmini - but what else do I need to install them?
This is what else (for a 92 to 95 Kick):
Suzuki Part Number, Description, cost each, qty required, and total cost:

Well, the Gnewt is still down - until I get the parts from Suzuki, for the rear, and until I get the parts from Stan for the front! I might head up Kingston way in the BattleCat (Dakota) to see how it's looking!

I reused all the stock bearings, bolts,ect.. :-/ I installed them in 2 different kicks that way. Why would you need to replace the inner axle seal and bolts?

Actually I did! I didnt have to drain it. I lifted one side at a time so the oil would run to the opposite side. ;)

:) that comes from a person with having lots of experience swapping axles. i wouldn't have thought of that on my own. so thanks :)
i also have the calmini axles, but i'm waiting untill i put in a arb locker later this year, hopefully. i also got a 16v header, and that's going in, in the next few weeks with a new high flow exhaust system complete.
you gotta like it 8)

Good Idea.
And Yea, I had to buy the new bearings and bearing keepers and axle studs. This way I would have a good spare in case Heck froze over and something happened.
Never hurts to be over Prepared

Why would you need to replace the inner axle seal and bolts?
Well, let's see. My FSM says I have to grind the Bearing Retainer Ring off, and cut it off with a cold chisel, to get the wheel bearing off the old axle, so I figured I'd just leave the whole shebang on the stock axle, so swapping on the trail is easier. The bolts are pressed into the flange on the axle - why would I want to try to extract the old ones, and press them into the new axle, when I can just have bolts pressed into both axles for 15 extra bucks?
Just my thinking. Seals? Hey, I think that after 132,000 miles, it won't hurt to replace the seals!

Another piece - OOPS!
You need 2 each 53820-60A00 Rear Wheel Outer Retainers - just over $20 each.

I for one am looking at this on the sidelines and thinking it's a high price for 30% increase in strength. My tune may change if/when I snap a rear axel, but till then I'm a spectator.

I am Mike! Most of this stuff is held on the axle, by the wheel bearing retainer. I mean - what'm I supposed to do, cut the old retainer off, and re-use it all (when If I leave it all on the axle I didn't break, it makes swapping it out a lot easier on the trail.
Am I missing something? How the heck do I get that bearing retainer off without grinding it away and cutting it off with a cold-chisel, as they say to do in the FSM?

I have a high quality press at work with many different chucks and I pressed it all off and all back on. End of story. If you had already bought new bearings why didnt you just cut the old ones off and slide the retainers off?

Dagnabbit, Mike, I don't have an angle grinder, and my bench grinder wasn't doing the trick, and I need to get the dang things going! You can press the retaining ring OFF? How the heck do you do that? Just push EVERYthing off at once?

I changed both of my rear bearings not too long ago. The passenger side was fine, but the driver's cage was in about a dozen pieces. I like doing my own work, but for this, I just paid an automotive machine shop $40-$50 (can't remember exactly) to press the old stuff off and the new stuff on. Piece of cake, done the same day they were dropped off. They're in Wheat Ridge if you want their info.

Clearly, a Hydraulic Press is in my future!!!
I still wanna lnow how Mike does this ON THE TRAIL - or even back in camp, say, in Moab.
Carrying spares with all the goodies already pressed on, makes the whole job one heck of a lot easier!

i change my rear bearings using a press,i reuse the retaining collars,and get bearings and seals from a bearing supplier rather than suzuki dealers which are usually totally useless and massivly overpriced in the uk.
the bearings cost about £5($9)each and the seals are about £2($3.5)each.

Your on the right track if you want coplete spares for the trail, you could buy a cheap press for the same price as paying a shop to press them. if you go to the disk brake conversion you won't need those plates.  ;D (at least on a sammie.)

dude, i got two words to say to you. Harbor Freight. no angle grinder. They are like 15 bucks and even come with the abrasive wheel.. I'm trying to piss in your corn flakes but geez get an angle grinder. If you ordered at the same time as your parts I would be willing to bet it would show up first! yeah I know I know Harbor freight is junk, well yeah some of it is but there angle grinders are decent!
