Title: I can't see driving a Trackkick in the snow!
Post by: keith on January 10, 2005, 05:01:50 AM
No, really I can't see! Whenever it is raining or snowing the windows fog up and all the defroster will do is clear a small part in the center of the front window and a little bit on the side windows.  What do you guys do to get around this.

Hah, this is easily the weakest feature of a Track/Kick.

I find that opening the side windows a wee bit (the back side windows on the 4-door) and NOT putting the temp selector on "nuclear" works best - I usually run the temp about right in the middle, for maximum air flow, when I'm fogging up bad.

The funny thing is that the heater rocks.  It puts out more than enough warm air.  It just doesn't seem to make it to the windows!

Try this .
When defrosting turn on your A/C. You can run the A/C with the heater on. The A/C acts as a dehumidifier look it up. Your windows will clear so fast it's not funny.
I had to prove it to some gear heads in the motor pool a few years ago. They swore they knew it all. An old dog should always be willing to learn new tricks. If more people would actually take time to read the owners manual they would be shocked at *some* of the usefull info in there.
On some vehicles including the "99+ TrackVits the A/C automaticaly comes on when you select defrost. The little green light does not come on but the A/C IS running.

JUST TRY IT. ;)

If you have a garage to pull your Tracker into, do it and put down the windows, remove the floor mats and let the floor and mats dry good. Soggy wet floor carpeting will cause mega fogging issues...

On my 99 Tracker the greenlight in on when ever the defroster is on. Either full defrost or defrost and feet.

I can't try it because my 90 doesn't have A/C!  That gives me an idea for another post!

Oh, in my 2000 and 2004 Trackers it doesn't. Either way light or not the A/C is on when you select defrost  ;).

READ AGAIN!

Hey, Kerry,

My Kicks (and I have had five Kicks, still have two) all had problems with this, even brand new.  But then again, I live at an elevation of 9,000 feet, and the weather can get somewhat severe!

For all the Kicks I've owned since 1991, this is the only real annoying problem I've had.  My wife's GV doesn't seem to have the problem.

Most newer vehicles with AC automically engage the AC system when on defrost mode.

I put Fog-X on all my windows.
It is made by the same people who make Rain-X.
Works great for months on all stationary windows and about a week on the moving windows.
