Newbie in Salt Lake City, looking to buy a Sidekick/Tracker, 2 door 5-speed, 4WD for towing behind motorhom e, to be used for around town, camp, and moderate trails.
Is there a big deal between the 80 hp and 95 hp engines for power or reliability?
Anything else to look for or avoid?
Thanks in advance!

Just me, but I would look for the 16 valve engine.

Stay away from auto-locking hubs!

They might be convenient, but flat-towing with auto-locking hubs can cause severe damage to the drivetrain.
Feel free to poke around at Ack's FAQ where the above links are located. The link is in my signature, below.

Nah, its not just you, I'd go for the 16V too. Theres just been so many times when I wanted that extra power.

If you do purchase one with auto-locking hubs there are kits out there to switch them over to manual locking hubs.
Just so you know you don't need to avoid them but is easier to not have to swap them over.
Just be sure to do this before you start towing.

the 8 valve may have less power, but its still a good motor. but yeah, id rather have the extra power of the 16 valve too.
