Title: Sidekick Sport owners!
Post by: Zooki on November 28, 2006, 06:28:46 PM
How many of you out there who own Sidekick "Sport" models have skidplates underneath? What kind do you have? I have heard that the frames are different on the "Sport" vs. regular 4 doors, so some parts fit, and some don't. I am looking for a complete set of skidplates(front, T-case, gas tank) for my '97.  Also, what have you done to fit a bigger spare on the tailgate carrier? I put 235/70/16 tires on mine, and now the spare won't fit the stock tire carrier. Any suggestions? Thanks!

235/70-16 fitted perfectly fine on mine. Maybe if it's close just let a little air out.

I put one size larger than stock on mine--I think they are 225s (it's cold and rainy outside and I'm not going out to look).  The spare nearly rests on the bumper.  My concern is that the weight is going to tear the door due to the vibrations from the rough roads around here.  I'm looking for ideas to make a new bumper with a swing-away carrier.

BTW, my right tire rubs the frame on tight turns.  Going to have to adjust the stop a bit.  Haven't done it yet because I think it might require a slightly longer bolt.

You are right about the frame difference; the Sport frame is about 4" wider.  The gas tank has a light skidplate, but I don't think I want to try bouncing it very hard off rocks.  We are probably sol in looking for heavy duty skidplates.  The best bet is diy.

i think that the best thing to do would be make your own skidplate. that way you would have exactly what you want. just my opinion
