Title: Tracker trans/sammy T case
Post by: aabest on November 30, 2006, 08:24:28 PM
I want max MPG out of my Tracker, but still want the 4x4.
OK......here's what I'm thinking.
I will replace my 4x4 auto tranny w/ a Tracker auto OD tranny and use a Samurai transfer case.
Has anybody done this? Any input either positive or negative?
Any better ideas?
Does anybody know the ratios of the Samurai T case and the Tracker T case in 4wd low?

Regards, Karl at http://aabestco.com/tracker.htm

how is this going to help your MPG. the sammy case has high range reduction so I can't see it helping.

yeah, i dont tink that will help. if you want god gas mileage, get a geo metro. or an older VW with a turbo diesel.

How about just swapping the 4 speed auto and driveshafts in, from the tracker the 4 speed came out of.  IIRC, the 4 speed is longer, so it will require you use the driveshafts that came out of the 4 speed auto tracker.  Also, IIRC, the tcase from certain year 3 speeds will work with the 4 speed tranny and driveshafts.

Tcase ratios.....
tracker low 1.82:1
tracker high 1:1
samurai low 2.268:1
samurai high 1.409:1
