Title: How to determine if its EFI or carb.?
Post by: NewSammyowner on January 11, 2005, 11:32:03 AM
This has to be the most stupid question ever but I don't know if my 1988 Sammy has a carb on it or is EFI.  I know its a stock 1.3L and I've changed the plugs and wires and airfilter & PVC but thats all.  Was told that its not fireing off all the cylinders so I want to replace it with a 1.6L.

Also I called a engine re-manufacturing place and was told that its best to not rebuild the Sammys but to replace them because of them being overbored and not being able to last long after they are rebuilt. He said if your going to sell it rebuild it but not if you intend to keep it.  I love mine and won't sell.

dunno if its the same in the US, but in canada an 88 sami is carbed... feedback carb!!! >:(
and were you told it was not firing on all cylinders because of no compression or something a new engine might fix...?
u didnt mention checking the dist. cap or rotor, and im sure theres a ton of other things it could be
1.6 would be sweet if you're ready to do it anyway, but dont give up on the 1.3 so fast ;D... some of us only have 1.0L's...

if it still runs ,rebuild it, depending on wear it may,or maynot need to be bored. probably not ,its more than likely a valve. ive had 3, 1.3s that have all lost a cylinderand its always ben a valve.the cylinders have ben fine and just needed a honeing. look at the cam jornals for gualding, tore apart a head a couple weels agow and the journal was galded so bad had to get a nother head.
i think whoever you talked to ts trying to screw you

Was told it was fireing off of 3 & 1/2 cyclinders. If I remember correctly he said the compression was good.  Where could I get more info on doing a rebuild on my Sammy?  Thanks for the replys.

Or.. the vacuum line from #3 intake runner just in front of the PCV valve has pulled off when they changed the air filter.

3-1/2 cylinders?  Wow, that's amazing!  Either you have the most radical new internal combustion technology, or your "mechanic" needs to step away from the crack pipe!  Oh, but that's just an opinion, and that, and three bucks will get you a cappuccino...   ::)

If you wait around a bit here, I'm guessing that you'll find a LOT of people here who have rebuilt their 1.3's and had no problems with it!
