Suzuki will soon build diesels

Suzuki will build diesel engines using Fiat technology starting in 2007.
Suzuki will begin producing 1.3-liter diesels for its Swift small car in India in January, said Minoru Amano, vice president of Suzuki Automobile in Germany. Suzuki will use technology licensed from Fiat.
Starting in 2009, Suzuki will produce larger engines for its SUVs in Japan also under a Fiat license. Their displacement will be “2.0 liters and higher,� Amano said.
“We are going to expand our diesel competency,� Amano said.
Currently, Suzuki uses Renault and Fiat/General Motors diesel engines in its cars.
