so, is there anyone running it will 31"+ tires with the stock alloy front housing?
How does it hold up?
I know quaddawg will chime in so, what pressure do you run you LTB's at on the trail?
thanks
-
i have been runing one since the zukimelt 06 and i run 34x10.50 tsl and the alum front
housing and have had no problems
-
sweet, 26 spline cv's or the 22's?
i think im going to get one if 34's don't break em, i don't do rocks either so i should hold up good.

The tt locker only comes in 26 spline
-
it shows on the trail tough site comes in 22 spline or 26 spline ???
-
he is right it comes in both
-
i am running 22 spline and i have broken one off in the diff.i would recomend 26 spline
-
yea, but i have seen the videos of the way you drive, and your running the calmini lift which puts stress on the cv's and im sure those 34's don't help much. I would love to go to 26 spline but thats more money.. and im 16 and very very poor
-
I havent checked out this locker yet, what kind of locker is it? LSD, lunch box locker, whole new carrier, what?
Sorry for the late and pretty dumb question.
Amilla
-
you get a whole new carrier but i think it has some kind of a lunch box locker inside. I think the carrier is similar to a machined out sami carrier. don't quote my on any of that tho.
-
it is a new 3 pin carrier and lockrite locker setup.i do not blame you for sticking to 22 spline
i kept the 22 spline because i have plenty of extras.the 22 spline2 have done fine for me and i am running toy cv axles too.the 1 i broke was at natural bridge and that was climbing big rocks with no crawl ratio so alot of shuving it into rocks was involved >:D
-
yea, im thinking about getting yota or ford explorer cv's
are you running the full yota cv or just the center with the sidekick stubs welded on?
And what part of the cv breaks when you break em?
-
i am running the kit that stan makes.you use stock toy cv shafts and locking hubs you do mike hagen's widening the kit comes with hub adapters new bushings and adapter plates.
you bolt one plate to the drivers axle and then you cut the passenger side inner cv cup and weld the adapter to it.the kit is top notch and comes with all hardware and instructions.
-
another pic
-
pic of the hole relocation for the widening
-
cool, thanks, is he producing these kits? how muchy?
-
yes,and they are $300 you supply the axles and hubs
-
and you need the hagen widening right? And is the 300 usd shipped or not shipped. What year and model of yota cv's do you need? Did you have any troubles blowing stock sidekick cv's with the front locker before you switch to the yotas? im only running 31's maybe 32's soon and i don't do rocks, do you think this is really needed or should i just get the locker for the front, drive around, if i blow up a cv then buy the yota cv kit?
-
i beleive the year range is 87-95 the kit is $300+shipping.i put the lockers in when i switched to toy cv's becuase i was also puting in 5.62 gears.i say try it with the stockers if they hold up
then why upgrade.i was blowing axles before i was locked and had 5.62gears >:D

Ooops, my bad. I do know that it is a modified suzuki carrier with a lockrite type locker inside. Its already set up and ready to go, thats what I like. I have the ability to machine the sami housing and all that but I would still buy the tt locker just for the time savings. Its definately priced right.

yea, i have't been able to break any front end stuff yet so i think i will get the locker and if i break then i will switch to yotas
-
were do you get these kits do you get with stan personally or can you order from some where. are these axles a lot bigger then the zukis. i blow out spiders gears and only broke one axle on a short lift with 33" tires on an open dif. my locked diff thats welded hasn't broken an axle yet two years same axles. we ride in ky. natural bridge area most call slade.

Stan builds them in his shop. They are not outsourced. Yes the axles are almost twice the size. Just to be clear on this the axles are not supplied. They are stock IFS toyota 87-95.The kit is what to need to make them fit. The kit is meant to be overkill so the "weak" link is still the cv, a part that most can buy from a salvage yard for less than $50. Toyota CVs are a huge strenght improvement over stock cvs. Our whole offroad club (at least the ones running trackicks) has gone to them now.
Adding a locker would stop the spider gear blowouts, as would some right foot control. ;)

How do these front lockers work on the street? Do they ratchet like rear lockers when turning?
-
i don't belive you can run the locker on the street. If the hubs are unlocked it is just like a open diff,,, but once you lock the hubs in, your not going to be able to turn. ::)
-
What i want to know is if your in two wheel drive on the street can you notice any difference with the locker in the front. The 4 wheel would only be needed off road.
-

In two wheel drive, you won't notice them at all... since your hubs will be unlocked
you can WELD your front end, and not notice it in 2 wheel drive.
-
I have auto hubs on the front, would this still be the same?

...Only if you are VERY CAREFUL in your driving habits making SURE that you don't accidently lock the hubs while backing up.
Auto hubs are not a good thing to have on a truck that you plan to wheel.
for more info (including a Susuki TSB document on the subject) do a search for hubs at Ack's FAQ. The link is in my signature.
You can swap out your autos for manuals from a salvage yard easily and cheaply.
Hope this helps!
-
Yes auto hubbs can be the kiss of death.

i wouldn't waste my time with the auto hubs..
ok, next question. I have a 1991 suzuki sidekick with a 8v standard tranny. With the locker in the rear and 31" LTB's will i have any power/toqure to turn those tires with the stock gearing? Should i get TT tcase gears first or get a locker for the front? because i notice that when trying to start from a stop when turning you really have to hit the happy pettle to stop if from stallingwith the locked rear, and im thinking with the locker in the front this would make it even worse?
any opinions?
-
A locker will not make it any harder to drive power wise. the reason you have to give it gas to keep from stalling it the 31" tires and stock gearing. TT tcase gears before locker is my opinion. Unless you only do mud or dunes then front locker!
-
mostly run trails, off camber stuff and washouts. some mud.
if im ordering the tcase gears from TT i will probably save up a little longer and order the TrailTough tcase gears and the front locker to save on shipping and duties.

Who is STAN???
Didn´t find anything here on zukiworld.
Thanx Dan

Gears before locker. Even if you have the front locker first, your gearing is so off that you'll end up burning you clutch out and breaking axles from going to fast.
The lockers and ring & pinion gears (5.62's) were put in at the same time and that was okay. But still, when it came to tougher climbs, the ole clutch got one hell of a workout. Now that I have installed the 4.24 t-case gears, what a difference. I loved it when I was climbing up hills and rock outcrops that the jeeps were having one hell of a time climbing...and I noo problem even with my A/C on ;D It just crawls under minimal power. So I would recommend the gears. Good luck!
