Title: misfiring and power loss please help

ok here is the set up

87 zuk 1600cc with 1300head a class 1 cam  and then a Weber
every thing else is stock

its cold about 35 degrees fahrenheit out
the zuk starts up and runs fine

4to5 miles into the drive and the motor is all warmed up
and it starts to misfiring and then starts backfiring at around 4000 rpm

some times if i stop the car shut it off and re start a few seconds later it runs fine

or i can knock on the side of the distributor housing and it clears up

im thinking the electronics in the distribute are going out???
any suggestions or thoughts...

help cuz it getting worse i think

I would check for a broken wire inside, a loose ground, and also clean the plug to the dist, and look for traces.
