Title: 96 Tracker running hot AND leaking water...help?
Post by: ArkansasTracker on December 30, 2006, 03:59:48 PM
My guess is either the water pump is gone or the radiator is gone.  I've already priced a rebuilt engine for $950 + install but I thought maybe this would by me a few more months...
My question(s):
1) where the heck is the water pump?
2) any suggestions as to what I should look for?  I did a search already but could not find anything other than focus on the pump and radiator first.
Thanks in advance!
J

I crawled under it a bit ago after filling the radiator.  Water was "running" onto the garage floor (pretty steady stream of water).  It was coming off the driver side of the engine, towards the front and it looked to be coming out from where the oil pan gasket would be.  Unless its running down to that point from somewhere else...

Sounds like it could well be the water pump. Water pump is on the (US) passenger side at the front of the engine. There is a 'weep' hole top and bottom at the front of the pump, the coolant will leak from there if the seal has gone.

yeah i jsut had this problem, i was going through anti-freeze like crazy. checked the lower weep hole and it was dripping. replacing a water pump isnt too bad.

Thanks guys.  Water pump is $40 at Autozone.  I'll see if I can handle the replacement.  Looks like the replacement may be a bugger, but I haven't had a chance to look at it real close yet.  I'll soon find out...
Thanks again,
J
