Title: Axle Boot Ripped

I ripped my front passenger side outer axle boot ( the one closest to the rotor) last time I was off roading, does anyone know a quick way to fix this or do I have to pull the axle, I was just going to fill it up with grease and give'r but I don't think it will stay in, if I do have to pull it what all involved...Thanks Mike

well, if you don't care about the joint and are going to replace the whole cv and just don't have time and want to wheel, i have done this is open up the stock boot and pump it full of grease, then get some duct tape and go crazy on it, will hold for a while and keep the joint semi grease, now this is my back up cv  ;D

Do a search for halfshaft or cv at Ack's FAQ (The link is in my signature).  There you will find an article with pics on how to replace those torn boots!

There are two options i guess for this.
They make CV boots that you can put the boot on without pulling the axle out.  Its a boot that is in two peices that you have to put on, then glue together with there handy super glue...
I have delt with them befor, but they seem very cheezy and dont hold well.  Its more of temp fix that you can do on the spot.
Or you can pull your axle out and put a new boot on.  The job isnt really that hard.
Pretty much pull the tire, hub, spindle nuts...its all in order as you take it apart. Its accutly very simple.  Im not to sure how hard it is to pull the accual axle out.  Iv done it to more toyotas.  Any of them with coils were super easy to do, it was the torsion bars that would fight.

x2 on the poor quality of the 2-piece boots.  they dont hold very well.

I pulled the whole thing apart and went to the local parts place to get a new cv boot, cost me $17 and change (new boot two new clamps and a bag of grease)so not as bad as I thought it would be, thanks everyone...Mike
