Title: Clutch Cable Delete?
Post by: MKOLSEN22 on January 10, 2007, 05:12:12 PM
Just kicking around the idea of switching from a clutch cable to a hydraulic set up on my 1990 Tracker.  Has any one else done this before?  I've got some ideas running in my head but thought I would see if it has been done before.

What year did they switch from cable to hydraulic?

I did a hydraulic clutch setup on the SM465 I'm using, using a 1976 FJ40 slave cylinder and an S10 clutch master cylinder. It wouldn't be too hard to do that on a tracker... in fact, when I get the ball rolling on my upcoming project, I may do just that.

It is very easy to do. You can get aftermarket parts from auto parts stores or rig something up from bone yard parts. I would look for a 99+ TrackVit in the bone yard and start there.

Thanks guys.  I was thinking of either finding a newer 'kick system or possibly adapting a toyota truck system.  I think there might be a few hurdles to overcome in the process but I think that it would be worth it.

I think if some one were to get it figured out and put a kit together it would be a big plus for the older trackers and sidekicks.  I just hate how stiff the long clutch cable is.  I want something easier.
