Title: Carb options?

Hey

I was thinking about getting a new carb for my 88 sammi.
I know there are a bunch of differnt ways i can go here but i wanna see what
other people are doing and like the best.  I guess i can take an average.
What are some of the pros and cons to certin carbs?

As much information would be awsome

Try a search for carb at Ack's FAQ.  There you will find info on the Pony Carb swap, the Toyota carb and Weber carb along with a few maintence items on (shudder!) the Hitachi.

got a weber it really livened up the stock sammi motor. It was really for a toy my buddy gave it to me. So now it's on the 20r.

I wasnt sure about a weber.  Some people have been saying that they are kind of difficult to tune, and that they sputter out on bumps and hills.  Anyone experience these problems?

webers are great for street use. they suck rockcralwling. they don't like steep angles.

Ya, i dont think thats what i want.  whats a good carb for off roading.
My friend is running a side kick carb and says its pretty good.  Any comments about carb? Good? Bad?

If your friend is running a Sidekick "carb", most likely he is running one of the several types of Fuel Injection systems that Sidekicks used.

I have a Sarge-prepared Weber 32-36DGAV on my Samurai and, although I don't drive it as hard as others, I have never had a serious problem with fuel starvation on an incline.  My carb is mounted backwards and the intake manifold is modified with a slight angle on the carburetor-to-manifold surface to further prevent starvation while climbing at a steep angle. 

Other carburetors can be adapted to reduce high angle starvation conditions, but the BEST way to solve the problem is to switch to Fuel Injection.

This can be done by purchasing an aftermarket injection system (My-FI: http://zuksoffroad.com/products/MY-FI.htm (http://zuksoffroad.com/products/MY-FI.htm) or by installing an engine/head that uses an existing Suzuki FI system (wiring and all).

It all depends on how much you think the starvation problem is going to effect your wheeling experience and how much money you are willing to spend to fix the problem.

The most common conversion in the UK seems to be a 44HIF SU carb, it has runs at pretty much any angle. Probably a bit difficult to find in the US although there was a guy who bought a 38HIF for a 410 from a Mini dealer. Biggest problem is that it is a sidedraught carb and therefore needs an adapter fabricating.
If the Sidekick carb really is a carb then I would think that it must be from the early 1.3 model, I seem to remember someone once saying that they were carb. I would be surprised if it was much different to the Sammy carb.
