Title: Rebuilt the knuckles (Sammy's Balls) this weekend
Post by: RShrimp on January 15, 2007, 02:13:30 PM
Had a grease leak on the left front so desided to tear into it this weekend.
I found the left front inner wheel bearing was bad and both upper king pin bearings were also toast.

I installed grease fittings on the rear of the steering knuckles while I had it apart and that seems like it is gonna work out great.

I bought all of the parts from samuraiparts dot com and they had everything in stock, shipped it quick, and were also the least expencive for a total price.
It is not offen that you get all 3 (cheaper , faster , better) but they have been great.

While I was in there I decided to do the brakes, replace all of the bearings and seals.
It is really a pretty easy job. I spent more time at the parts washer than in assemby disassembly.

The one major tip I have is to make sure you slip the green seal over the ball before you install the new king pin bearing races.
I also found that putting it in boiling water for a couple minutes made it stretch pretty easy.
