Title: Missing link question
Post by: twdcmd on January 20, 2007, 04:24:31 PM
Hey guys, new to this board and thought I'd start posting with a rousing debate.  I am tired of hearing the question about whether or not missing links are unsafe on or offroad.

If you've never had missing links or haven't actually witnessed an event related to missing links, don't post here.  I don't want to hear about what you've heard from a buddy who's friend's cousin's ex-brother-in-law thought he saw one time at band camp.

If you HAVE had M/Ls, post here to say if you have ever experience any ill effects from using them.  This could be everything from the shackles unloading on you to side-shifting and anything else you can think of.  On the same note, if you have never experienced any problems, say that too.  Also add if you made the links or bought them.

Thanks guys, have at it!

i am running Trail Tough missing links without any ill effects. They do shift alittle left and right, but it is nothing that you can feel while driving.

Gee, I thought I was on zukiworld not POR ::)

I didn't mean it like that, I've just heard too many "opinions" when it comes to this stuff from people who've never used them.

Are you using sammi springs? or YJ?
The question is for M/Ls in general, but mine will have YJ's ;D

i am also very interested in running missing link shackles.  i keep hearing bad about them, but they sure look like they work pretty good.  rocky-road advises not to use them with wrangler springs and thats what im running.  i dont know if they say that for liability reasons?  im suprised nobody in here is using them and can offer good advice.

I run a folding shackle in the front only, but I haven't had any problems with on-road handling.  When you hit bumps though, they will fold open slightly.

In the past I have run with a Jeep using the folding shackles all around.  His main complaint was trying to run trails at speed, the rears would unfold when hitting the bumps and it did not feel safe.

I'm not sure you really need the Missing Link if you are running YJ springs though.  You get enough flex out of those things anyway.  :D

LOVE LOVE LOVE ALL YA NEED IS LOVE
Got em on all four corners. On and Off road they work great no adverse effect at all. I have read several threads on different forums and the most interesting comments seem to come from the rigs with the most unusual pictures of their set up. The same is true of the discussion about shackle reversal. Ask for pics and judge the set ups check it out up close at trail run.
