Title: 3" lift install Q's
Post by: ed oorklep on January 04, 2005, 03:31:58 AM
Hey everybody,

I have a few questions about my 3" lift (pro comp), but it's allmost the same as the calmini one. Rear is on the car allready, no prob's at all  8)
But the front is more difficult to me,
what should I do first, lower the diff or put in the new springs and struts and lower the A-arms? Or the other way around ???
I don't want to do it all together because I don't have the equipment to let the car rest on while everyting hangs loose in the front......

I hope you have some answers to me, and I'll post pics when done  ;D.

I'll be off picking up my 33" tires now  ;D   ;D  ;D

Probably easier to pull the suspension out first as you need to be able to pull the RHS axle out of the diff which requires taking the three bolts off the A arm or two off the strut depending on which way around you do it. Then drop your diff and reinstall the suspension.

EDIT: if your worried about stretching brake lines etc while it's all disconnected put some rope thru where the strut bolts go and tie it off to the strut towers above.

If I remember correctly the instructions had you install the A arm drop brackets first, along with the additional shock and limiting strap. Then the Diff was droped.

Please keep in mind that I had this kit on my vehicle for 1 week, MANY years ago, so the memory is kind of fuzzy.

I purchaced it form a Big Company that sold all Explorer Pro-Comp kits. They new nothing about the Kit. Much less the fact that the Kit would not properly install on Canada built Kicks/Trackers. It pushed the suspension up to high, maxing out the travel busting CV's as soon as you put her in 4x4.

There were a few other things I did not like about it (ride, drop brackets draging over everything when wheeling, etc...) I was MUCH happier with the Calmini 2" kit I purchased to replace it ;D)

AH I get it now,

I just hope mine isn't canadian then  :P But I have limiting straps on the shocks and a front skid plate with it (and a set of 33"s) so we'll see.
Thanks for your advise.

Yeah, Zig... Nice write up. I hadn't seen that before... You've done more to it since then, right?
