Title: Sidekick/Tracker transmission output shaft size...
Post by: eMKay on February 01, 2007, 07:31:01 AM
Do all the tranny's have the same output shaft size? I am building a Lotus 7 replica (AKA: Locost) and I am using a Samurai tranny, it has a 23 spline output shaft. I need to source a driveshaft for it, and there are plenty of them out there for Trackers/Sidekicks. The 4wd outputs are 27 spline so those won't work, but are the 2wd driveshafts from Trackers/Sidekicks 23 spline? I can't find any 2wd Samurai shafts. Length isn't an issue as I will be shortening any shaft I get to about 29" or so.

I thought the sami and the tracker trans outputs were 22 spline.  ??? Either way I do belive they are the same. Ive never tried to interchange but mabey sombody else has.

Thanks, As long as they are the same, it's fine. Maybe I just can't count. And seaching Google for "22 spline yoke" gives me a lot more info than "23 spline yoke" and it looks like the RWD Corolla's used a 22 spline yoke, and that's the car the rear end came from.

I think you need to consider the diameter of the splines as well as the number of them. You might have to cut and shut the intermediate shaft from a Samurai and the driveshaft from the Corolla. If you have to shorten the propshaft anyway then it shouldn't be much extra work. Interesting project, what engine are you using?
