AS you guys have probly noticed I really enjoy building and researching engines, and now my curiosity is up.
More power is a fairly constant topic on this board as are engine swaps (and I promise to finish posting the 2.0L as soon as it's done). But what are most Suzuki owners really looking for in the Track/Kick/Sammy's.
Some guys like Wild and I are fairly out there but everyone claims to look for "a little more". I would be willing to do a more extensive post as I am getting ready to build another engine if I can get an idea of where the interest is and what level of capability it should be written to.

I have a 4 door 8v on 30" tires and stock gearing. Yes the motor is probably a little tired but all I want is enough power to hold 5th gear going up hills on the hiway. new I was 80 HP? so somewhere around 100 would be ideal.
-
I think around 100hp would be good.
Today my 1.6 has about 130-135 psi on each cylinder so I'm under stock hp I'm sure. Still does ok, but just a bit more to keep hwy speeds would be good.
I've also found when I'm wheeling, I'm usually running around 2000rpm (mines an auto). Would luv to get some more torque down low like that.
-
I can do the valve grinds, rehone the cylindars, dont know much about the 5way grind you have talked about, or port and polish, would like to know a way to do that, maby a detailed measurments on a turbo manifold, and what else you have to do to these motors to make them turbo, will the pistons hold, do you need to resleve, any of that.
I would like the blowoff valve sound. just to make people think ??WTF??
-
i woudl love to be at 100 hp, and be able to pull 5th gear up soem hills 8)
-
125 would be GREAT. If somehow some more low end torque could be added, that would be ideal.
-
marine 3.0 ironduke 4 cylinders engines are the answer. only 135 hp but amazing torque and reradily availible aftermarket parts.
-
I'm not trying to get into swaps with this....
I'm just trying to find out what you guys would like from a stock type engine and I might try to do a reasonably affordable on line build up that I can post for all.

100 hp mark would be nice, i would like to test the efects of a snorkel, on power. and also the electric super - chargers? sposed to add 15 - 20 hp? i duno 20 hp at the tuch of a button would be cool

After contemplating both an XL7 V6 swap and a Chevy 4.3L swap, I think I'm going to keep the stocker for now and do some work on it to squeeze out a little more juice.
What I'm after is decent power throughout the RPM range, which the 1.6L 8v might not be able to do for me, but I think I may try it a little further before dumping the engine. By good power, I mean the ability to spin upwards of 36" tires :)
But yes, any engine work stuff that you have to post, please do so! And remember, the more pics you have to go along with the post, the better ;D

I think a stroker, 1.6 in the area of
1.8L would be a good torquer as well
as need a bigger cam that could get
into the 110-125 range in N/A form
For me, a stroker, Blown or Turbo at
around 10-12 PSI boost and 7.5:1 CR
a little more cam for around 200-225
HP would be a sure kick in the arse in
a 2500 Lb SideKick
A 3mm increase in bore and a 6mm
increase in stroke would give you about
1835cc engine, reduce the bore 1mm
and the stroke 1mm and you get a 1769cc

Ok guys
I'm getting the picture (other than Wild who is too much like me) the concesus is to build something to produce a real 90-100 hp and write it so that rookies can understand it. Am I right or do you have more suggestions?

Ok wild when it's done we will add the TPI mega squirt system, Subaru turbo, intercooler and nitrous fogger and still tell everyone it's stock...ok
-
Turbo is stock ......... On a Subaru ;)
-
Nitrous is stock on a Supermarine Spitfire
Zag
-
Hmm .... yep all stock
-
Now i've got the low end picture....what about the top end....Wildgoody how crazy do you think we could get on a 2.0L 16v....I'm thinkin Full built bottom end, balnaced etc, adding about .050 to the lift 20 degrees to the duration custom buildiong an intake to use bosche injectors with the mega squirt box, crank fire ignition then adding................(your turn)

You know with the right parts a 2.0
could produce 300 HP, but I don't
think it's a good match for a 4x4
For torque, a high compression non
boosted engine would be the most
reliable, but I think more cc are needed
for real power and torque gains
-
Ok back to reality...........
Are you guys interested in a post with pictures on building a 1.6/8v of 90-100hp. Written so any one with the basics can follow? On a reasonalbe budget.

definately!!!
we use to do 1.8 8v VW engines and they would do nice torque using a 2.0 head and 1.8 bottom g60 infectors and 272 degree cam along with intake and full exhaust
this made a wonder ful engine for street ....good toreque and good top end about 135 hp or so
-
Would love any ideas to get a 1.6 8v moter to around 100hp I was seriously hoping to get around 100-115 out of mine when i rebuild it with some add ons. Was looking at a .20 overbore on rebuild with header and exhaust swap with cam. Any other ideas would be great though.
-
For wilder stuff guys I a pile of info on "Pics of zaggy's engine" and "high performance engine glitch" where I got 113-114hp |removethispart|@ 5900rpm. That will give you the idea of what it takes to get to that power level.
What I have in mind here is a pretty sane 1.6/8v build up with pics, showing what it will take to get to around a real 90hp, bolt ons, cam and some mild internals.
Whose interested in following that ?

This was also my "recipie" for the winter rebuild ... probably some head porting for intake/exhaust flow ... but yea!
I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE AN EXPERIENCED ENGINE BUILDER WRITE UP THE "RECIPIE". I'd even ship cam cores off that I can find for the "experiment" ... find the best grind and then post up the info or sell em ...
-
Hey zag ...
Put out a call for parts/donations. I for one would drop $20 to ya to fund the "experiment", and others probably would ship cams, valves, etc from junk cores. Wanna play with 1.3's? lots of them around ;D
To me a small contribution to get the right recipie will pay off in the long run.
I enjoy the "build" of an engine too. I just hate when "that doesn't work right" ends up meaning I have to redo something :( (e.g. cam grind or compression ratio, or ...). So you figure it out, I made my "contribution" the best I can, and all is good.
-
OK you asked for it........
I'm setting up the back shop for this extra project now.
But I need to know where I can set up to host the pics, this is something I haven't done before and Wild was good enough last time but this will have a pile of pics so I should set something up...any advice

Zaggy,
This is a site that Explosivo, a Zukiworld member set up. It works pretty darn well.

The biggest things I would like out of the stock 1.6 8valve in my Trackers would be low end muscle and reliability. Being able to lug it down lower and still have some power to pull itself back up would be awesome, but I wouldn't want to sacrifice reliability to do so...
-
I'd like to see about 20 more ponies, so around 195-200 would be nice. ;)
-
Lets see for 95XL7............
Dual exhaust, custom 2 1/4", dual cats, Turbo mufflers, removable balance tube about 24" back from the manifolds. KN airfilter....yeah that would get about 15hp
