i started to have a problem getting my samurai in 1st gear. its getting worse pretty quick and sometimes it takes me about 30 seconds of trying to get it to go into gear. all other gears work fine and shift properly. does something need to be adjusted? or is my tranny going out?

synchro might be going out, 1st gear does get quite a bit of work.
Nothing you can do to adjust it, its just a replacement thing.

before i replaced my trans i would make sure clutch is fully engaging if not clutch can syop you from puting vehicle into gear

check your cable for spliting

thanks for the replies, i tightened up my clutch cable and it has helped but i havent had a chance to really take it out for a good drive yet. ill see how it works tomorrow.

does it go into gear easily when its not running? Could be clutch adjustment or a bad cable. Is it easier when its warm?

its still acting up. it goes into gear perfect when the engine is not running clucth in or out. when i can get it into first when its running i have to be at a complete stop. If im rolling there is no way it will go into 1st. All other gears work perfect. i tied adjusting the clutch but no luck there.

when the car is off you can force the synchro gears to mesh up, but once its running they cant do that, there acting like a stright cut gear. All of my other rigs that i have had that wont go into first (or any other gear). So i re-build the tranny, new synchro, Shifts like a dream.
Will it go into gear while rolling if you double clutch?
I have to do that every now and then, seems to work fine.
