Title: Calmini Rear coils
Post by: RJkick on February 25, 2007, 10:27:40 AM: Has anyone had any issues with the rear Calmini Coils bottoming out? I can see where the powdercoat is rubbing off from bottoming out

I have a '92 4dr and I went to the mountains wheeling with my wife and niece and as soon as we went over any dips at any speed greater than a crawl the springs bottomed out. The kicker is how everyone usually has a problem with stiffness. I spoke with Calmini and they said maybe an air shock or extended bumpstop or too much weight in the rear of the kick (Are they kidding) I think my niece weighs 100lbs

I think that since there are so many rings on the coils they would have to touch when your flexing. I dont think they go solid on a straight down hit cause they would look like this.

When it bottoms it kind of jars whomever is in the back seat. I guess it is just a nuisance but it seems to me they shouldn't do that.

The daystar shock bump is universal so it was just a thought

Post by: Mikerpm4x4 on February 26, 2007, 05:29:09 PM: Its your shocks bottomming out or your coils would be out of shape like the ones in the photo. Try removing the coils and reinstall the shocks. Jack the rear axle all the way up till your shocks are fully collapsed and you can see how far your bump stops need to be extended. 37Kicker makes extended bumpstops and might be interested in making a custom size if neccicary.

Also are your shocks the calmini shocks in the factory location?

Most likely I'm going to have to buy some new coils

OME955's I hear work but that would require a coil spacer so I may try a custom set with a higher rate

Somehow, I can't imagine Mike running ANY Turkish Calmini knockoffs.

I had that aweful hard bottoming feeling in my 4 door when I hit a bump/pot hole/speed bump etc. I ditched the calmini shocks for some monroes for a '98 f150 2wd. same length as the calminis and they are unreal! I also put OME struts up front and the difference is simply night and day. I can now hit a speed pump at more than 5mph and my kid does not wake up in t he back seat either! I will be trying them off road this weekend.
