Title: Christmas Present for myself ;-)
Post by: nitromax on December 24, 2004, 04:54:53 AM
Well, just a co-incidence actually but today I bought this:

a Camden SuperCharger for a Samurai complete with Weber carb ( not sure if it's a 32/36 or a 38/38, picking it up next week ).

I bought it from a local Suzukishop: www.suzisplace.nl/ They ran it on one of their competitionSamurai's for a couple of runs, but if they'd want to keep it on the Sammie they'd have to move up one Class so they took it off and put it in the attick for the last 3 years and just dug it up this week.

I was there to pick up my British made "JanSpeed" headers to go with the rebuilt head with Calmini camshaft ( and the Weber 32/36 DGAV I bought this week on Ebay, which I'll sell again on the Internet  ;) )

When everything's in the shed ( still waiting for the rebuilt head and free-flowing muffler ) I'll put it all on at the same time and see what difference it makes, I bet this will become one Screaming Sammie  ;D

Supercharger and Weber ( and they will bolt it on my Sammie and set it up ) for € 750,- which is $1000,-

I have to tell you honestly that my wife was there when they showed it to me and I was seriously hoping she'd stop me, but all she said when she saw me stroking this aluminum beauty was: "You do want it don't you? Well........buy it then ! "

I must admit that she's gotten used to this kind of thing: I do own a NOS injected 1300 cc VMax which will have over 300 BHP on the cranck ( which is being specially milled at this very moment )  ;D
I've also just sold my Jaguar 4.2 liter straight 6 JaguarTrike, which now pays for all this nice stuff for the Samurai  :D

Damn... nice find.

That'd bolt right up to an 8v 1.6L, wouldn't it?

 that's the cats ass ;D

I would have to think it would bolt up to a 1.6 8v but then you'd be taking a step back towards carburation instead of tbi i don't know ???

Man i would love to put that on my truck along with TBI and make it all work.

Good buy if u want to sell it let me know

Send some more pics of different
angles, I'd be game to carve up a
manifold to make it fit a supercharger

Nice Find

Yes, it will fit on a 1.6 6-valve, that was one of my first questions when I was drooling all over it, that's one of the mods I had in mind for the Sammie.

I will take pics from all angles when I have picked it up ( and cleaned it a little ) next week and post some here.

I'll be spending most of this weekend looking for all the other things I will need to run this SuperCharger ( like oilcooler and ignition, anybody got any info on an oilcoolerkit for a Sammie ??? )

Any info would be appreciated  :)

I think I'll make a new page on my website with all the engine goodies  :D

Merry Christmas !

just talk to your local speed shop, you can get a universal oil filter relocator, maybe even with dual oil filters, and throw in a cooler on the return line.  cost me 90bucks for the dual filter relocation for my firebird.

Hold on, if that thing bolts on to the 1.6, then just make an adapter to bolt the tbi onto that.

i have been thinking about finding a super charger off a 4 cyl car and fab up an adapter to hook it to the 1.6 head.  let me know if you get anywhere with that.

What 4 cyl car do you have in mind ???
I was looking for superchargers last night
but nobody posts prices for just the SC

I was thinking about putting an aftercooler
in the intake manifold too, pump the engine
coolant thru it to drop the charge temp.

Second: A TBI doesn't flow enough fuel for
more than 2 PSI boost, so you will need some
sort of additional fuel injection to take care
of the boosted fuel demands, I think a custom
designed manifold with MPI injector bungs would
be in order for this day and age, EFI is the way
it is, not so when that Supercharger system was
developed, and if on a Sammy, there was no EFI
until 90' if I have that right.

I would be interested in a Roots type SC with
a flanged boost side instead of a plumbed tube,
as the TunderBird SC has.

Went to pick-up the SC with Weber, cleaned the Weber and found it to be a 32/36. I have another 32/36 coming from the States, but I'll sell that again ;) While being at Suzi's Place, they received a phonecall from some-one looking for a proper working standard carb and I sold the carb that's on my car now there on the spot !!! He is patient enough to wait for me to change everything  !!!

I talked about maybe changing to a 1.6 8valve somewhere probably next summer ( still need a lot of money and have to spend a lot of time on my NOS injected 1300 cc VMax ), found the price for a 1600 very reasonable, they'd allow me to work on the 2 engines ( taking all the stuff needed from the 1.3 to put on the 1.6 ) in their garage using thier tools and experience to save money.

Coming to work ( Tattooshop as Bodypiercer ) I showed the SC to my ( envious ) friends and told my wife about the 1.6 engine and the plans for next summer.

While I was eating my pizza, she had secretly called Suzi's Place and placed an order for a 1.6 so I can do all the changes at once  :o :o :o

I'll go and have the exhaust made next week and work from there.................................I now have to go out and buy my wife a biiiiig bunch of flowers  ;) ;D

[edit]Hmmm, just heard from "someone" on "another board" that the cranck and rods of te 1.6 are weaker than the ones from the 1.3  ??? Any advice on that ?[/edit]

BS, the later 1.6 ie 16V crank is better ballanced,
(weights on both sides of the throws)
otherwise the rods and crank look the same,
1.3 rods and the crank journals are smaller than
the 1.6, and the rods are shorter than the 1.6
but both cranks are hollow in the throw, I don't
know if that's for ballance, or to save rotating weight
but the cranks almost look identical, they aren't tho.

Wild, I see in your signature you drive a 1.6 8v turbocharged Sammie, so you must know what you are talking about. No problems there then ? Ã? should go for the 1.6 8v and put the SC on that ? Any other mods? I ordered an adaptorplate for an oilcooler ( inbetween the engine and oilfilter ), I ordered a boostgauge, an electric fuelpump ( should I take the mechanical off and put a plate on the hole or do I run them together ? ) and an adjustable fuelpressure"thing" ( can't think of the proper name right now  ??? ). I'm also mailing with MSD for the right type of ignition, but maybe one of you guys knows which one to get ?

It's a SideKick, and you need more than
a bigger fuel fump. Are you going  to keep
the carb ?

If you are I don't think you need an adjustable
fuel pressure regulator, unless you got a high
pressure pump, then with a carb you would have
too much pressure, you need about 3-5 PSI to
keep up.

Ah Sidekick or Vitara as they are called overhere ! Well, engine is the same as I am going to use I guess ? I am keeping the 32/36 Weber for now as the setup is complete like this ( maybe upgrading to a 38/38 in the future ). You think ( or know  ;) ) the standard fuelpump should be sufficient ? I know about the fuelpressure regulator, setting it on 2 psi for offroaduse and 3psi for onroaduse. The fuelpump I'm getting is sufficient enough for J|removethispart|@|removethispart|@ps so maybe too big for the Sammi?

Friend of mine |removethispart|@ www.offroadcentre.nl just called me and he can get me a 4 to 5 psi fuelpump ( for a Jeep ) and an automatic fuelpressureregulator, which regulates itself to 0.5 psi at idle and up to whatever is needed on- or offroad. Good idea ?
I'll get the specs this afternoon, maybe even a piccie of the regulator.

And yes, I'm from the ( at the moment very snowy ) Netherlands

Suzi's Place ordered an oilfilteradaptor from which I can mount the oilcooler, it goes inbetween the engine and the oilfilter. I'm picking up the( secondhand, but almost new ) oilcooler next Friday, make the brackets for it and have a forklift company nearby make me the special hoses and connectors.

sorry if this seems like a hi-jack, but is there much difference in the weber 32/36 and the weber 38/38?

i see a lot of set ups using the 32/36 weber for forced induction, what about the 38/38?

is the 38/38 good with out being forced induced?

Sarge, the man from MidWest Performance is the one to answer all you Weber questions. He told me to get a 38/38 carb for this set-up, it would even be faster that way. Since this set-up is ready to go on a Samurai ( it was on a 1600, which I am going to install soon ) I thought I'd keep it this way untill I have tried it ( and untill I can find a 38/38 for a good price  ;) )

Difference - besides size of course -   is the fact that on the 32/36 the throttle opens one at the time and on the 38/38 they open both at the same time.

Sarge will correct me if I'm wrong  ;)
