i used my kick to pull some trees around using a cable and the tow loops, when i was logging. the lack of power is what stopped me. well, that and a slipping transmission.

They are fairly strong, for what they are.. I wouldn't want to winch up a killer rock face with them, but I have towed my kick, and several other out of some pretty deep muck with them.

My opinion is, don't use them if a failure would send you careening down a hill.  Use them at your own risk, pulling out of mud, etc....

They are ok to pull from but I wouldn't snatch with it because you'll rip them right off :P :P

i've used them to snatch and mine are still holding  :o, but somebody tried to snatch me out of a nice mud hole with a 4runner and i didn't move and the rear loop looks slightly bent.  i agree with quaddawg's thoughts on this.

i went into a mud hole with my 89 tracker hit a rock broke my frame and was hung up good on the rock my old man came out with his dakota had to hook the chain onto the front one cause the back was rotted off and pull from the back cause he couldnt pull it from the front he had to really come onto it to get the tracker out and the loop held up and this tracker is a rust bucket and the frame is pretty rotten i'd say they are fairly strong

I have used mine to pull people stuck in the snow now twice, a Malibu and a Windstar, no problems

Mine have taken some abuse. A Samuarai snatched me out of axle deep sand once. He was really flooring his motor and I did think that I might lose the tow loop but it held. No sign of damage at all

I have an 01, those hoops are plenty strong!

I've yanked out a full size x-cab gmc, x-cab dodge(teetering on a pine tree) and way too numerous jeeps (  ;D ). The rear one has bent out a little, the front hasn't budged.

my 2 cents

This loops are just sh*t...

I tore off both front/rear loops on my 94 4 doors sidekick and the rear one on my 02 GV...

I pulled the front one off.  I thought I was weak.

If you pulled it off I'd say you're pretty darn strong!  ;D

Yeah, they aren't meant for towing, but I and a LOT of other people have used them to snatch and be snatched..

just be aware, they WILL pull off and turn into missles sometimes...

Wasn't the one on mine tho ;D

I had to get mine off to install my new front bumper. I couldn't break the welds with a big sledge hammer or bend the loop a whole lot. After about a half hour with a diamond dremel cutting wheel I got the loop to break off with the hammer. The welds are still there, I say they are pretty stong.  ;D

Mine worked great for tying the vehicle down and tugging on things until I tried to pull myself through a rather large pile of snow I had pushed up in front of the rig.  Never did find the tow hook...   ;D

The handbook shows them as towing/recovery points but I think they mean breakdown recovery rather than stuck up to the axles on 33s type recovery.

To be fair, I am only running 29's.  Then again, I was stuck up and over the top of the front bumper...

 :P

Being stuck with 29s is different than being stuck with 39s >:D >:D
