Title: dome light upgrade?
Post by: chet on December 23, 2004, 05:58:10 AM
So the dome light in the kick is about as bright as... well a suzuki dome light! It sucks!

What have all of you done about upgrading it? it anything?

I used a 12v dual fluorescent tubes, works great and it's cheap.

I mounted it above the rear door and wired it into the dome light and it throws heaps of light into the front from there.

There is a dome light up there ???
;) I put in a higher watt bulb, helps
some, but not by much, I was thinking
about those long strip style flourescent
12V accent lights, but white is hard to
find
:(

35 watt driving light wired into the dome light (no bulb)
works like a normal domelight.

works good and can be somewhat pointed where you need it (up/down)
Used a hose clamp and  clamp it onto the rollbar.

Shucks sells a replacement dome light that kicks butt.  It is a lot bigger but it is worth it.  In my buddy's hardtop heep ( with a white interior on the top) it damn near hurts your eyes.

I picked up a clear dome light at Wally World for about $5.00, complete with push button switch. I then chucked the old dome light in the trash and installed the new one right over the hole. Puts out a ton of light and looks doggone near OEM. I'll try to get a picture tonight and post it.

Howdy:
I just came across this last night. I've got one of these under the hood of my '95 K1500 & was looking to put one under the hood of my sami. After seeing this, I'm thinking of locating it in the rear tub, maybe on the left side panel. It would be handy to the open side of the tailgate for inside or outside use. It makes a good flexible dome light the way this guy has his. I thought this might give you an idea. Have a good one!

Wait a minute...you guys have dome lights?!!  The Sammi dome light's wires got drowned a while ago. My dome light is a 1,000,000 candle power spotlight, or the in-dash rechargeable Maglite. 8)  But seriously, how bad is the lens, is it really yellow or cloudy.  Maybe replacing that would provide more light.

I was actually thinking of decorating my rig with Christmas lights using one of those things, but John Law would have me busted in no time.   :(

Great Idea. I've thought of those but hard to find in wreckiing yards and not cheap enough for a poor b*stard like me ;D
But still looking for one (or two) ;)
