Title: Rear door wiper
Post by: JulianK on March 08, 2007, 04:09:15 PM
I have a 4-door, 5-sp, 4x4 1998 Chevy Tracker. I want to install a rear door wiper, as it does not have one.

I have a plastic plug above my rear window and a rubber plug behind the spare tire.  Obviously these are for the rear window wiper.

Do these cars come pre-wired for the rear wiper or I have to install wires? What is generally involved in the rear wiper system - I assume the motor assembly, a delay controller and a switch? Where is the factory location of the delay controller - I want to check if I have one.

If not - I am planning to go to a junkyard and get all parts from some minivan (there are no 4-door Trackicks in any junkyard near me). What parts should I get?

I have a rear wiper on my '93 JLX.

The lower hole is for the wiper and the upper hole is for the washer nozzle.

I don't think they come prewired or have washer hoses installed.  The only way to find out for sure is to pop off the inside panel on your truck.  You might also be able to tell by removing the passenger tail light and see if there is any unsusal wiring or tubing passing through that space.

Let us know what you find!

You never know What they might be pre-wired for!

I have a 95 2-door, and a 95 4-door.  When I installed rock lights, I needed a place to put a switch for them.  Wellllll...

I got a standard rear-window defroster switch for a 4-door on ebay, and popped off the "hole plug" in the place where the defroster switch is located in the 4-door, and guess what?  There was the connector for the defroster switch, in the 2-door harness!  It sure made wiring in my rock lights simple!

SO - I would recommend popping off the middle-right hole plug, and seeing what's back there.  The rear window washer/wiper switch goes in that slot.  If you can get the factory switch, you'll be ready to go!  I have ARB switches in my three right holes - your rear wiper/washer switch would go in the middle hole shown here.

Oh!  And you'll need the second washer fluid pump, that installs on the washer fluid reservoir!

Thank you both of you.
I checked behind the passenger's rear light and there is one free harness. I will check later behind the dash too. In case there is no wiring, how should I wire it? Do I need some eletronic regulator, or those are built into the wiper motor? Do I need a relay? What makes the intemittent operation of the wiper?
If I need those (relay and regulator), where are they located on those trucks, which have them from the factory?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!   *GASP*

Intermittent?  The Intermittent control is your FINGER.  You turn it on.  You turn it off.  You turn it back on.  You turn it back off...

There is no relay, just a straight 12 Volts from the switch to the wiper motor.
